Dooley: Florida’s Trask is not backing down
    By Pat Dooley GvlSun
    July 13, 2019
Kyle Trask had just been through a workout and slapped on his backpack after a quick shower. It would be another typical day for the quarterback in what has not been your typical college football career.

If there was ever a perfect candidate for the NCAA transfer portal it is Trask, a young man who can’t catch a break unless it has been to one of his feet.

Instead, he is still at Florida with plans to graduate in August and pursue a master’s degree in science and management.

“We had our meetings, and they still want me,” Trask said. “I told them I’m all in. I know the whole portal is the thing to do now, but that’s not really me.”

If we have another Kentucky, Missouri game this coming season then we might need to change it up... I like that young man's determination.

He’s smart enough to realize the value of a degree from the University of Florida!!!

This could help us more than we know. Literally. I hope it doesn’t come to needing Trask on the field, but he is a serious factor in our depth at QB. Props to this Gator for having sound values and priorities.

KT is simply a kid that is going to win at life. It's not about the glory, but the process and constantly moving forward as a person. His parents are no doubt very proud.

Refreshing. Been pulling for him since he signed, and it sounds like he's only gotten stronger mentally and physically, especially after his challenges... maturity beyond his years.

Trask may yet surprise. Kid knows the game and has become a physical specimen. Plus, plus character. Would not be surprised if he has a successful NFL career.

Won't be at all surprised if he gets quite a bit of the PT in 2020 while EJ gets worked into the job.

This is a piece of very good news. I'm thrilled and impressed with Kyle's character. Finishes what he starts.

Very impressed with Mr. Trask. Wish there were more like him.

It is assumed that he is third on the depth chart but if Franks went down I think Trask might move into the starter role. Jones seems like more of a package type player at this point.

I still think given the right Tutelage he could be a solid NFL backup. He has all the intangibles and throws a rope.

Better scenario - Franks lights it up this season, we win a championship, and Franks declares for the draft — leaving the competition for starter in 2020 wide open between RS Sophomore Jones and Senior Kyle Trask.....

Wow. A kid that committed and stayed committed. Who doesn't take the easy way out. Who wants to persevere. Who loves his college and most likely, his friends and teammates.

It used to be routine. Not now, with the new breed.

Great to see his dedication and perseverance!!

Now, if only the rest of the athletes would do the same... we'd actually have college football the way it was meant to be!

He came on in relief against Missou and looked really good. That's why Mullen opened up the job.

Seems to have lit a fire under Frank's.

Yeah, Dooley was wrong. He was set to start against USCe after the Mizzou nightmare, but as fate should have it. Franks got the start by default, and miraculously became a different quarterback that game, and the rest is history, as they say. Although this history is still being written.
