The evolution of Feleipe Franks as an UDFA with the Falcons: Rookie Review The evolution of Feleipe Franks as an UDFA with the Falcons: Rookie Review

Franks went from backup quarterback to tight end to special teams contributor all in the span of six months in Atlanta.

"Some guys wouldn't be willing to do what Feleipe's done, but he has, and that says a lot about him," Smith said. "... I think it's rare what he's done or attempted to do."

When Franks was first taking reps at tight end, he spoke to the media about this challenge and how he did feel as though he was developing in his understanding of the scheme.

"It's helped me just widen my perspective (of the offense)," Franks said. "It's helped me have a bigger view of the field, what everybody is doing, what assignments everybody has."

If you read the full article, it's fairly short, what's interesting is that Franks is taking on additional roles (TE and Special Teams) in addition to being backup QB. He is still preparing to step in for Ryan and might have been the first go to at times because McCarron was injured and Rosen wasn't activated while Feleipe was due to being a (swiss army knife) utility player. Hey, whatever keeps you on the roster!

Trey Burton made him some money doing the same. I think he's currently still on Colts but they may waive him.

I believe that he is still with the Colts. However, at this time of year, some teams shed players for various reasons. Trey has eight NFL season behind him. If Trey earned the minimum NFL salary, he could of hauled in at least $4 million (that is not chump change). One of my favorite Gators.

But he still spells his name wrong.

Maybe they need someone on staff like UF now has with all the new Napier hires: Quality Control - Spelling and Grammar.

I did go back and reread the article after I initially thought it said he was the Special Teams coordinator.

Trey has made just over $27 million in his career thus far, the Bears gave him around $20 mil to scuff around there for two years

Feleipe should have been a tight end at least five years ago

That's awesome. I think Tebow would have been well served to do the same after his last stint w the Jets i think it was, rather than pursuing baseball.

He tried TE this season--a bit late. Imo, he shoulda tried full back. He was accomplished as such, and would always pose a latent dual threat.

Not knocking TT, but FF as a special teams/whatever utility player in the NFL is, I'm afraid, more prestigious than minor league baseball player.

    just sayn.

I remember that contract extension I was shocked. But he played fantastic that season.

Frank’s i thought was sneaky athletic, but I wouldn’t have thought athletic enough to do other positions in the NFL. Good for him.

    Thanks for that info. I
Well, I guess have enough reason to cross him off my worry list. I find it amazing how some of these NFL guys, who are not a major attraction, actually make a nice fortune in the NFL.

Tebow could have done the same thing and stayed in the NFL longer. Pats wanted to convert him to a H back/TE as well. A few teams called about converting to a TE and Tebow was adamant to remain a QB.

Is it better to have your only pass thrown be an interception or to have never thrown a pass?

Interception. Hundreds of millions of men never have and never will throw an NFL pass.

Just to make an NFL roster, much less get to play is quite an achievement on his own.

The kid who did this for us is entitled to do whatever he wants:

BTW, not too many people can throw a football that far either.
