This is what cracks me up about these protectionist whackos.

Anyone can look at store shelves and see all of the product made in China, electronics are almost all made in China. I can see being concerned with that arrangement, actually I would say “welcome to my argument from 30 years ago”. That still doesn’t mean economically ruinous tariff levels (lol 145%) are a good idea now, but can look at ways to diversify supply chains across multiple countries. Maybe that involves a sensible tariff.

Who in their right mind thinks we need “protection” from Canada or the E.U. or Mexico. The only people who care are special interests like dairy farmers and timber industry. Maybe some misguided auto unions…go to any shop and you’d probably have to work to find products from the E.U. and I’d rather doubt they are competing on price. On vehicles? Anyone here buy a Mercedes or Porsche because it’s the low cost option? Maybe some Mexico based production competes on price (some Audi’s are surprisingly produced there by VW, but then they are probably just undercutting other German brands or their own German unions… not directly competing against any particular American product.
