WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal trade court on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump from imposing sweeping tariffs on imports under an emergency-powers law.

The ruling from a three-judge panel came after several lawsuits arguing Trump has exceeded his authority, left U.S. trade policy dependent on his whims and unleashed economic chaos.

At least seven lawsuits are challenging the levies, the centerpiece of Trump’s trade policy.

Tariffs must typically be approved by Congress, but Trump has says he has the power to act because the country’s trade deficits amount to a national emergency. He imposed tariffs on most of the countries in the world at one point, sending markets reeling.

They did him a favor - gave him an off-ramp. He’s been in this tariff flip-flopping/TACO behavior that is unpopular with everyone.

Good. Trump has gone way farther than the leash of the Constitution allows with tariffs by executive fiat. He needed to be reigned in.

I strongly suspect there are many, many Republicans sighing in relief.

We can all debate the legitimacy of Trump’s tariff policy, but there is no question IMO that the legislative branch is where it should have been implemented.

Where was this court when China knocked off small, medium, and large companies in the last 30 years? Have they stopped China's metal dumping? They are still doing it today. What have they really accomplished to help the American taxpayer? Their title includes the "US Court." They should not act as if they are a wing of the WTO.

Having a court called the U.S. Court of International Trade is not in the best interest of the American taxpayer. Whether consciously or subconsciously, the lifetime judges that make up this group must come to believe their job is to promote globalism, promote internationalism, and promote free (but not free) trade at all costs.

Notice Canadian globalists love the decision.

As I pointed out in the other thread discussing this, the Order was stayed (put on hold) by the United States Court of Appeals For The Federal Circuit.
