    Any 80's fans in here?

    Check out Home - Nostalgiacon

Some big names will be there. What's your favorite decade for movies? Mine is the 80's.

Love the 80's for the music, not so much for the movies (other than Hughs' stuff). The fashion was horrendous as was the huge hair. But that music, primarily the alternative stuff, was so damn good. The surfing I did back then was the best dang fun I've ever had, doing anything.

I love the 80's teen flicks but hardly any of the big budget stuff due to cheesy as chit background music and poor writing. There are some I love from that time period but not as many as the 90's and beyond.
    Some I liked were...
Caddyshack, Back to the Future, the outsiders, breakfast club, Bladerunner, Fast Times at Rdgmnt High, Full Metal Jacket, Stand By Me, Raiders, Aliens, Scarface, Predator, Blues Bros, Platoon, First Blood, and Wargames to name a few.

I saw Trading Places a month out of UF. I laughed my behind off for so many reasons. Then I saw Scarface and laughed for a very different reason.

Looks like I will be at this event. Should be pretty cool. Some pretty good names in 80's movies.

    Anyone in the LA area?

Agree 100%. The eighties for British and American music was what the seventies was for American film.

Comedies were absolutely at their best in the 80's. All those SNL and SCTV alums and writers were a gathering of eagles.

The good (well, besides my beginning real work years): it was Reagan's enthusiasm getting the bad taste of the 70's malaise out of our collective mouths. Also, it was fun having a new wave of British bands, especially the one-hit wonders.

The bad: it really was the beginning of the "go get mine" mindset. While entrepreneurial in nature, it made us all uncaring about what is happening to others. And finally....Big Hair!:eek::eek: Big hair was THE thing that competes with the 70's fashion trends when you look back and say "What the H__L were they thinking???"

As for movies, I think they reflected what I said about the good and not-so-good things about the 80's. The 70's to me had some damn incredible things and a LOT of sheer crap. The 80's seem to have some really nice hits - for me it was The Big Chill. After that...

I can't believe nobody's talking about Weekend at Bernie's. In my universe, two idiots dragging a dead guy around would be a Hollywood staple.

Eighties movies were entertaining but mostly fluffy, escapist stuff. The eighties can't touch the seventies when it came to films… The Godfather, Star Wars, Jaws, Chinatown, Network, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Raging Bull, Apocalypse Now, MASH, Close Encounters, The French Connection, American Graffiti, Rocky, Patton, The Deer Hunger, The Exorcist, The Wild Bunch, The Sting, Annie Hall, Carrie.

Don't know where to start with eighties music. I don't go a day without listening to something from the eighties.
