I heard a story, maybe Ron and Ian out of Tampa, that talked about Rhett showing up to camp as a rookie. Before practice he got in the middle of the locker room and basically challenged everyone there to fight him if they were man enough. I guess he some vets were talking smack about rookie initiation/hazing. Nobody took the challenge and stepped to him. He did it, while wearing nothing but a jock strap. Dude was a different breed of toughness. Haha
Not only is he our all time leading rusher, but when Rhett finished his career at Florida only two SEC rushers had more career yardage… Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson. Others have passed him since but he is still 7th.
Spurrier said it, not me. Running into the backs of his lineman isn't what you want from your running back. You want them to see holes and cut to them. He ran tough, but just because he's our all time leader in rushing yardage doesn't make him the best running back we've had. The only reason he's the leader is because Emmitt only played 3 years, while he played 4. I loved him, but there are several backs that played for UF who I would take over him.
Emmitt may have been better, but Rhett was pretty damn good and I never heard spurrier say anything but good while he played. I didn’t say he was our best ever, but to insinuate he wasn’t a great back is nonsense. Many times holes are not there initially and they open up.
I didn't insinuate any such thing. Nice of you to read whatever your agenda is into my post. In fact, if you read my last post, I stated that I loved him. Rhett was perfect for the team. And again, Spurrier is the one who made the comment, not me.
I don't think some of the fans here know how instrumental Rhett was in SOS's early teams. Some even mentioned that they don't remember throwing to him a lot. In fact it was the opposite. Rhett had a bunch of cathes coming out of the backfield. What I remember about Rhett the most was the time-out game against UGA. It rained à lot that day, field was terrible and muddy. When he rolled around the puddle like a true gator would in the mud, I knew Georgia was done. Anyway, Baugh is à lot like Freddie T than Rhett.

Saying “he ran into the backs of the offensive linemen and that isn’t what you want” to me is insinuating that he didn’t know what he was doing. I just don’t agree with you there. No agenda, just reading what you’re posting.

Rhett was an amazing pass blocker. He was great out of the backfield and caught a lot of passes. Tough runner. Out of the true RB’s Ive personally watched (no Harvins) I have Rhett 4th. Even though he’s my favorite player alongside Lawerence Wright. Emmitt Taylor Neal Anderson Rhett
He had 153 career receptions for over 1200 yards. Total yardage adds up to 5300. You guys may not remember his long runs, but, I sure as hell do.
Rhett was an all-weather running back, too. Remember how he did on that muddy Gator Bowl field in '93? Never slipped and fell once, except to make Omega Psi Phi mud angels in the endzone.
