    Definitely a great athlete.

The University of Florida football signee scored 35 points to lead Kissimmee Osceola to the Class 9A state championship with a 50-43 victory over Wellington in Lakeland. He had 24 of the Kowboys 27 second half points.

Well I should double check for auto correct before posting because I typed Diwun. If a mod could change that would be great.

    Thanks for the info.

I like it when our footballers play other sports well.

It shows that they are “athletes” not just footballers.

Not just athletes either- but champions.

Having a championship mentality is huge.

This is an incredible performance. Didn't know he was an elite hoopster.

Yup. He's pretty good. There are a few/several videos of him playing hoops floating around and he's so long that he gets to the hoop so quickly/easily that he makes defenders look silly. (Not to mention an explosive leaper)

Imagine if he could walk into the basketball
program next year and play sf, Keyontaee Johnson
PF and Stokes at center, even for six to eight minutes, these bruise brothers could put it on the SEC along with there running mates at the guard positions. Feels good to dream!

Last UF player I remember leading his team to a HS hoops championship was Percy Harvin. I think he averaged almost 30 points a game his junior year. Also led his school to state championships in football and track.

He seems to be doing quite well: Diwun Black carries Kowboys to championship | State Basketball
Diwun Black played the last game of his basketball career and made the absolute most of it on Saturday night.
The University of Florida football signee scored 35 points to lead Kissimmee Osceola to the Class 9A state championship with a 50-43 victory over Wellington in Lakeland. He had 24 of the Kowboys 27 second half points.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior, projected as a college football safety or outside linebacker, has all X’s and O’s in his future. But he became the X-factor for Osceola basketball after joining the team in mid-season.
Black scored all 14 of Osceola’s third-quarter points and added 10 more in the final 3:30 of the game to carry the Kowboys across the goal line. As the buzzer sounded he was at the bottom of a pileup of 13 teammates.
“He took over the game and there wasn’t much anybody could do about it,” Osceola coach Nate Alexander said. “Not [Wellington], not me, not anybody on this team.

“He just kind of put us on his shoulders. Everybody else chimed in. I’m super proud of the whole team.”
Black made 12 of his 19 field goal attempts and was 10-of-10 from the foul line. He added 10 rebounds and three steals for a vintage performance at the RP Funding Center.

Can Nick Savage take this scrawny basketball body and transform it into a major force suitable for linebacker duty on the Gators?? ;)

    Wow, now that is cool.
I absolutely believe that the intangibles (such as leadership and work ethic) carry over from sport to sport.
I think this is huge- that Black helped lead his team to a state title.
I also believe that we should prefer kids on state winning teams. (Not exclusively, just saying it helps.)

Way back when I came on these boards and said we should offer a kid named Sidney Rice who was from my area of Upstate SC.
Rice was not recruited by us, but actually said publicly he wanted to come to UF.
Rice was not a big-time recruit, but was a part of state winning basketball teams. I think football too. (not as sure.)
We didn't take him. (Thanks Ron Zook!)

I was right. Rice ended up going to USCe and tore it up under SOS.
He became a 2nd round pick by the Vikings.

I love so much of what I see from Diwun Black! Glad he is a Gator!

Well I guess I'm not most people as I don't see a way to edit the title.

Yeah, that was my biggest question. He’s all in and such a good kid. I hope he sees a roster.

UF has lost very few actual signees to academics in the last several years. He probably has to check in or has admissions people at UF checking in at his school. I expect him to enroll and make an immediate impact.

FWIW, he should get jersey #11 because of all the adversity he faced getting into UF.
