Reminds me of the poll in 1982 indicating that Ted Kennedy would beat Reagan in the 1984 presidential election.

    So many issues here

    1. As mentioned in other thread only one Republican has won the popular vote since 1988, and that was barely.

    2. Desantis is not Ronald Reagan. He hasn’t really been tested on the national stage. Remember when everybody thought Rick Perry was great before he stepped out of Texas.

    3. Desantis is a polarizing guy. He isn’t inclusive, like a Reagan or Obama or Clinton. Perhaps he eeks out an electoral college victory, which is plausible, but not a popular vote landslide.

    4. He will have to survive the onslaught from Trump. Trump will do his best to castrate and cuckify him. If he survives it he will be the first Republican to do so. Plus Trump could still command enough of the base to win the nomination like in 2016.

    5. We don’t know if Desantis will run. He is young. A smart play could be to let Trump flame out and implode in 2024 and run in 2028.

    6. I’m not convinced Biden would run again if he Trump weren’t his primary competitor. I really hope he doesn’t. I’ve got nothing against him, he is just too old.

I think Republicans are really getting ahead of their skis here in their infatuation with Desantis.

Trump will run as long as he can continue to put money in his pocket, which means forever. It is his main source of income.

If that means that the Republican Party has turned his back on him, then he will just continue to run as an independent even though it will screw his party in 2024 and well beyond.

In 2016, when there were about a dozen candidates seeking the Republican nomination for President on a debate stage, each was asked if they would commit to not running as an independent to prevent a party divide, everyone, sans one, was willing to agree. The lone holdout, of course, was Donald Trump.

He has the entire party by the balls even tough most would prefer him to be out of the way.

DT will not go away silently. Unless he needs a pardon he would run as an indy because he doesn't have the capacity to understand that people don't like him

If Biden runs he’ll have a new running mate. Harris is a liability for a candidate with enough challenges of his own, and a fair number of Democrats don’t think she’s qualified to be POTUS.

So what you're saying is the GOP platform is just so bad it doesn't matter who the Dems run, they're gonna win? I actually agree.

LOL, DeSantis is essentially Ronald Reagan at this same point in the timeline. In 1978, Reagan was thought of as an outsider, an extremist by Republicans. Nobody thought he’d be the eventual nominee in 1980. I’m sorry, my friend, but the Reagan comparison to DeSantis is quite apt, even though I didn’t make it. Reagan was not a “big tent” guy in 1978. Or at least nobody thought of him that way.

I seriously doubt this. Replacing the VP is almost unheard for the 2nd term. Harris is just as viable as Biden.

That's not happening. And the bold is a ridiculous stance.

When one side is ballot harvesting and who knows what else, it doesn’t matter what the platforms are.

An 82 year old incumbent running for re-election is even more unheard of, as in it’s never happened before.
