Your examples are of people celebrating their heritage. Those celebrations aren’t necessarily saying their heritage is more important to them than being an American. She can prioritize it however she wants. It’s her life and nobody should try to kick her out of the country because of it. I can understand the criticism when she is an elected representative.

C’mon Bill, you know that the only amendment to the constitution that can be interpreted differently (due to changes in circumstances) is the second amendment.

It is intentionally not vague. Arguing against birthright citizenship is arguing against the Constitution as it is written.

    All persons is not vague.

Lol! Conservative property owners wrote the laws to protect their property interests.

Private property rights are the cornerstone of freedom--the most fundamental rights to keep government at bay.

So yeah, you better believe Rule of Law is as conservative as it gets.

    That's why they exist.

Else we would have adopted the Indian view of property--no one owns any of it; it's all everybody's! (Or nobody's! Same dif...).

It should be noted that the translation of her comments came from The Blaze, a far right website that has had trouble with accuracy before. Here's another translation from the New Republic, left-leaning but with a better rating for accuracy.

DHS Stoops to Shocking Low in Racist Attack on Latina Congresswoman | The New Republic

As far as the MAGA calls to boot her from Congress, that's up to the voters in her district.
And those making the even more ridiculous calls to deport her, they don't seem to have much of an understanding of what this country has been about. Either that or they just don't like that whole "land of the free" idea and think we need to change it radically.

Now that it's pretty clear that -surprise!- right-wing media was totally lying about this ...... do you think there should be some consequences for that?

Or do you just think that "Oh hey, this is fine, just like when they lied that immigrants were eating dogs. Lying is OK if it's from people I like."

It's going to be fun to see how many MAGAphiles come back to this thread to change their tune and denounce the people who lied to them.

Wait, who am I kidding? Trumpies don't mind being lied to.

Well the headline in your New Republic that you say has a better rating for accuracy reads. DHS Stoops to Shocking Low in Racist Attack on Latina Congresswoman. Where was race even mentioned?

That's off-topic, but how do you feel about being lied to?

That’s valid. While the DHS is obviously very selective in its criticism of ‘hyphenated Americans” there was no need to taken that overt angle in the headline.

Race was easily implied. She is of Guatemalan heritage. And saying she loves her heritage. What color skin and what race do you think she would be? And would a white guy with red hair saying he loves his Irish roots have been a big story in the Blaze?

    Like...the law?

But no one ever seems to dare to make that argument.

Just...let's pretend the law isn't there, on the books.

Let's just not enforce it ( so we can enjoy cheap fruit n veggies, lawn care n such... and pretend we care...).

Implied? Is printing something that could be implied as fact considered accurate factual reporting?

Unlike newspapers that go out of their way not to call obviously racist things racism so as not to offend the sensibilities of bigots who love nothing more than working the refs, the New Republic doesnt fancy itself some sort of neutral journalistic endeavor afraid to arouse the ire of bad-faith right-wingers. It does punditry, not reporting.
