Dan Mullen - NFL?

Beyond obnoxious. Are you suggesting Mullen should change his name, or that we should hire coaches based on their name?

Kliff Kingsbury is neither a Heisman winner or a movie star, unless it was in the porn industry.

As in 13-17-1 at Arizona Kingsbury? He's having a decent season, so the jury is still out on him. He might be the exception, who knows? Kingsbury also had significant NFL experience prior to coaching in college.

If DM is indeed interested in the Jets position, then if he took the job he'd get to coach in a good 3-4 meaningless games vice just a bowl game. For the first couple of years at least.

I still think UF is a pretty good gig too. I hope he stays.

 

It would be interesting to know how much NFL player experience helps prepare one to be an NFL coach. In theory, I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

 

I’d argue the jets job is the worst job in all of professional sports. Terrible franchise.

I'm happy to have him as a coach. We'd be crazy to want him gone now. But I really do tire of his antics. Not only does he do this "I'm job hunting" thing way too much, he brings national attention on himself for all the wrong reasons week in and week out. But these are all just petty grievances in the face of winning.

 

To me. It may be Twitter nonsense. But it continues to come up.

 

You have 10 opt outs for one of the top bowls in the FBS. The team then doesn't seem prepared and uses a the top bowl as an exhibition. Then the head coach says 3 days later that he's open to other job opportunities. So its not exactly crazy for some people to question commitment, even if its not fully valid.

 

Promote Brian to what ?

Agreed- I think such an act after an 8-4 season makes it hard to stomach. I wish our AD would put the foot down and say `nice try, Dan!'. Its one thing he was doing this at Miss State, but not at Florida. The guy is yet to win any championship in his career and its not like his team made the playoff...

 

Given our atrocious finish to what had been a pretty good year, I would hope Dan would be immediately shooting down these other opportunities and publicly stating he has a lot of work to do heading into the off season.

I agree his comments overall the last few days are not a very good look.

 

You know FSU fans are in a hard place when you get emails from them thrilled Mullen is rumored to the NFL...my FSU friends are just giddy with emails. One even told me Willie was going to UF...but when I told them Meyer always said he’d jump at a shot if UF called him again (I just made it up) the emails got silent...priceless

 

Of course we want Dan to stay but we can’t raise and extend him. He is a clear hold given his accomplishments here. Remember Muschamp was on the very very cusp on a BCS title game and Mac won 2 SEC East titles. Learn from those mistakes. If Dan doesn’t fix the D we can easily have a 5 win season.

Now if Dan fixes the D, either makes CFP or SEC title in next couple years, then pay him top dollar.

 

There are plenty of decent options. No idea if they’d be an elite option but I suspect most would probably be on par with what Mullen has accomplished.

I’d say the chance of Mullen being elite (CFP or SEC champ) is higher than all 4, but not large enough to pay him top 3 CFB money.

 

Currently Mullen's annual salary is higher than 20 NFL head coaches.
