This one is different, says he’s “open” to it. No, I don’t believe it will happen, but never say never. It’s likely Sexton trying to build the urgency for a big contract extension. Thoughts?

Dan Mullen: Adam Schefter shares on ESPN this morning that, in addition to the two Big Ten coaches highlighted below, Florida’s Dan Mullen is open to an NFL head coaching opportunity.

Don't see it happening, but we should no doubt be prepared for the worst. If it happens, promote Brian Johnson and be done with it.

Could that be why everything it’s so quiet on who the new DBs coaches will be?

Or is this simply negotiating tactics for a contract extension?

If we promote Brian Johnson, I wouldn’t say we prepared for the worst.

I hope he takes a moment to have a chat with SOS about it. The NFL is a very different environment.

I'm sure that if he wanted, he could get an OC position in the NFL at any time. Not sure about HC only because he's not really won anything at the collegiate level as a HC yet, but stranger things have happened.

I hope he stays. The grass is rarely greener in the NFL for college coaches.

Or is it simply someone called a journalist throwing stuff on the wall hoping something sticks so they can claim to have broken the story?

Smells like a move by his agent. I expect that if there were any serious interest, we'd be the last ones to hear about it

If we lose Mullen this program is toast for a long time.

And you know what? The fans, media and University deserve every bit of it

May be a good idea but doubt Mullen is going anywhere. Continuity and no quick hire . If he worked out great, if not, a change wouldn’t be as much like a revolving door in a year or two.

Fan-base grumbling about the end of season fizzle and retention of TG, so Sexton is moving the narrative like an agent should.

If it leverages an extension, all the better, from his point of view.

Simply stating he’s “open to it” I think is a safe way not to say anything new and create buzz

If that somehow happens I’d try and convince Scott Frost to bail on Nebraska

    Not going.

Same article said Fitzgerald is also open and he’s another one on a list that would get a call very quickly. Need to understand there are only a few jobs and there are several guys in the NFL that have coordinator experience that would get calls before Dan. Then when you think about it there are several college coaches that will get calls before Dan.

Not a slam on Dan just real deal. I had forgot about Fitzgerald but when you look at Riley, Campbell, day and several others they would definitely be guys that could get quick calls. But then when you look at hiring recently and you see what happened with Cleveland, Los Angeles, Miami and you will see they hired guys with NFL experience at least at the coordinator level. If somebody’s going to be hired from the college ranks it’s going to be a form or a guy like Meyer that has won at very very high levels. This is the media trying to get clicks and it could be Dan trying to get more money

If I was a successful college coach moving to the nfl, which I consider Mullen successful, if a team doesn’t already have a top ten qb capable of winning a super bowl, no way in hell an I taking the job. I’d sit right here in college collecting my millions and recruiting my players. So much easier to stay in the top of college than pros. Being a great coach doesn’t guarantee anything in the pros.
