Look at Ohio State's records for the last 20 years then look at ours. We're not in the same ballpark.
We choose not to. We have hired four consecutive failed coaches. We were the last SEC program to update its facilities in the name of fiscal responsibility. We were slow to adapt to NIL and make correct use of the transfer portal. We still believe this is the college football of the 1960s. We still believe in things like “UF recruots itself” and “In all kinds of weather.” Just look at the rules of this board where player and coach criticism is heavily monitored. The minute one is paid to perform one is open to all forms of criticism. And please mods notice I use the word criticism, not insults, threats, or libel/slander/defamation of character. We have chosen to continue being the Gator fans of the 60s, deadly afraid of the NCAA of the 80s, thinking SOS of the 90s is one phone call away from saving us. We have to change the way we think if we want the results on the field to change.
Worse than all of this is to see half ass u fans coming out of the woodwork with their hats and yard art.
That state of the program is a university and fan base investing a ton of money, time, emotion into trying to be elite and create a rewarding environment for the athletes to further whatever direction they choose to pursue in their lives, but the appointed leadership for the program don’t align with everything we have invested. Truly the worst coaching I have witnessed in as a Gators football fan.
We paid $500k for the privilege of losing to USF. How much is Florida football paying LIU, USF to play at The Swamp this season? — The Gainesville Sun
Were going to lose a lot of recruits due to the coaching transition. This can be mitigated to a certain extent with NIL, but only if we have a well-funded NiL that can outbid the top teams for talent. Unfortunately, we don't.
The reprieve was based on a better defense not offense. Go back and watch, we beat Ole Miss and LSU via defense. Our offense output in those games were not good. Then we beat a helpless fsu team that had only won 2 games. And finally, we beat a gutted Tulane team in which Lag threw several int's and ended up pulling away in the second half. We have never been a good O team with BN designing and calling the plays period. Everyone knows this but the coach who for some reason is believing he's Spurrier. Second half yesterday was the icing on the cake, 5 punts, little yardage and if not for a great punt return the game may not have been as close.
Hell, Spurrier won big at USCe when he had horrible offenses. He was able to adapt to what worked best, and knew his defense was the backbone of the team. By being able to win without using his primary weapons was as impressive as his work at Florida, IMO.
The talent is all there man to be a playoff team. To think it’s not is being dishonest. Napier is one of the worst gameday coaches in the history of UF. It’s almost like he’s disconnected to what’s happening on the field. I was hoping we’d come out of halftime and put a drive together. We were deflated and no energy. And that’s been since his first season. What happens, happens. That’s it. He wouldn’t even acknowledge it or own it last night. He’s jobbing our school for millions and those players deserve much better. Way much better. Remember when Meyer took over and a few players left school early while others endured the transition? They won a NC in year two because of difference in coaching. Same situation we have right now.
He’s still around because we live in an age of sports where we have to pay up lots of money to fire a coach. Makes me think even further that Napier maybe didn’t give enough shits to win or lose. Just pay him his damn check. I swear on my life if I coached UF the way he did against USF I’d return a paycheck back to the school due to, if anything else, accountability.
