Because for decades, we had unwritten code never to bash a player. I broke it in 2002 and David temporarily banned me for it.
I too was a freshman in 1963. We got to see SOS and many subsequent Gator greats. I generally buy tickets to one or two games a year. Being 80 is not the same as being 19!
This is something I have been wrestling with for a while now. I think for many of us who have been around for a minute, we are viewing the game in 2025 through an outdated lens. We are looking at this situation as if it were 1995 and clearly this is a very different situation than it was then. In short, our solutions and interpretation of the problems are obsolete because it’s a totally different game. You younger folks can call it whatever you like and you’re free to tell me to stop yelling at the clouds or whatever, but I do not care for this system at all.
We are in complete agreement. That said, reality is now different, and if we are to remain enthusiastic Gators, we need to either adapt or quit following college football.
Until the UAA and the administration make a top to bottom commitment to winning, a la Ohio State, Alabama, & Texas, I'm not really sure what the point of firing Napier is. The purpose of a system is the output of that system, and while I may be in my feels, I just don't see where the improvement is going to come from with the system we have. The ironic part is that it's the system (Napier's) that was supposed to change everything. This whole program is a mess right now.
Not really, an above average coach would be 3-0 right now more than likely. I wouldn't say we would be competing for championships but we wouldnt be a mess. Theres alot of positives right now, just no gameday coaching to speak of.
I'll readily admit that better coaching could win with this bunch, but I doubt it could win consistently. Outside of Coach Spurrier no one in the organization seems frustrated with our lack of progress under this regime. To me that's very telling.
It would be weird if they werent pissed. Most arent going to discuss it on social media. That would be weird too.
Your not much older than me. I remember the 0-1-1 start and Pell got fired and Galen Hall took over (great year!). I think Ron Roberts can be the interim. I just can't stomach BN on the sideline and his insanity any longer. You dont let your QB stay on the field for 5 interceptions. But BN is in his own make believe world. I would much rather have anyone coaching the remaining games. I thought DJ was gonna knock him out last night. That kid was beyond insanely frustrated. BN is the worst coach I have ever ever seen and I have watched football since a child. I apologize for being so negative.
I’m starting to think that Boneheaded Billy realizes that he is in way over his head without his floaties on and he is daring SS to fire him. This is the only way that his horrible decision making and coaching makes sense.
"The reality is that we have no viable options to lead the team if he is fired" I've been a Gator fan forever and following these boards for many years. As such, this is about the 4th or 5th coach over the past couple decades since Urban where these same discussions take place. "Let the season play out", "we have no viable options if "BN" is fired", "which coach will we hire", "it's the players fault", and my new favorite above, "the players contributed to the disaster", "better coaching could win with this bunch", etc, etc, etc. It's getting old. Bottom line. Billy can't coach. DJ has regressed, whose fault is that? Maybe he needs to be benched. Fire BN and let Callaway run the offense. I don't care who the HC is. I have suggested Billy Gonzales. Maybe he' not the best choice but pick somebody, anybody. We have great position players on offense. The defense looks pretty solid. The O line needs work. QB? Who knows? But Billy absolutely, positively needs to go. Use the rest of the season to evaluate the current team, the offense and for gosh sakes let a new coach take the reins of the offense. In the meantime start the search for a new coach.
Vegas is trying to bait some dummies into taking an early bet on Florida at +7.5. Expect the line to go up to Miami -14 before game time.
I will be curious to see how many players go into the portal since UCLA and VT FIRED their HC's. Becuase some have said if we fired BN now half our team will go into the portal. Even if that happens I still want BN fired now.
