I, among many others, wanted Napier to be the guy. We bought into the process of building a strong program with strong character players. But the reality is is Napier is the same Napier in each season at UF. Penalties, sideline mistakes, discipline and play calling are huge problems that either he doesn’t address or can’t fix. He plays NFL style field position football while depending on perfect play from his players. The problem is is that it leaves no room for error. While USF is a good football team, UF is a loaded football team with average gameday coaching. Napier does a lot of things right but his gameday coaching can’t be trusted. We all watched that game expecting at anytime for the offense to start scoring TDs. We kept seeing screens and RPOs to up and out routes for at best 5 yards. When USF missed the FG I was expecting that UF will come out running and grind clock. But no. Incomplete pass and clock stops. Then we try running after wasting a down. That’s unacceptable at this point. Bottom line is Napier has spent four years building a loaded team and will coach them to the same results. Those players want to win but they suffer from gameday incompetence.
To this ‘loaded with talent’ thing, we’re a top 15 class type of team. Problem: that doesn’t put us in the top five in our own conference.
20 wins, 20 losses. And anyone thinking we have a winning record at the end of this season needs to buy a lotto ticket. It doesn’t matter why, the state of the program is bottom of the sec and the state of Florida. The cherry on top is the culture here was displayed with penalties and a player spitting on someone at a critical time. Current state of uf football is in need of a brain and heart transplant.
Most likely we will be the fourth best team in this state after 4 years of BN. What does that tell you?
Sad but true: f$u, Miami, USF, UF, UCF, then the alphabet soup of directional schools that happen to be in the state.
The signs were there before. When Napier refused to hire an OC after 2 years, it was clear he was not the guy. He got a reprieve because he had a decent run last year but this style of offense makes it so that anybody can hang with us. Then the game comes down to a few key plays or scenarios. That shouldn't happen against an overmatched opponent.
I was yelling "run the damn ball" all day knowing we have two very talented, fast, strong running backs (supposedly) a good Oline. Very poor coaching decisions caused a loss. Spitting cost a chance to win.We could have run the ball down their throats WTF?
Where is usf ranked? We are 20-20 under BN and achieved our highest poll ranking of 13 before yesterday. Yet you say we get top 10-15 classes. We are bottom of the state of Florida and the sec? Hmmmm…
Honestly, I think we have to accept the fact that we are a second tier program. If we get the right coach at the right time, we can hang with the elites but those times are few and far between.
Against P5 competition: Dickey: 50-41 (.549) Hall: 31-22 (.585) Zook: 17-15 (.531) Muschamp: 19-20 (.487) McElwain: 17-12 (.586) Mullen: 28-16 (.636) Napier: 13-20 (.394) It's not that the schedules have become monstrous in the last four years. As Bill Parcells said, "You are what your record SAYS you are..."
It’s amazing to think how bad FSU was last season and how much they have improved now but they knew they had a problem and did everything they could do to fix it. Napier doesn’t think he even has problems so he keeps doing the same thing over and over and over with the same results.
Nonsense. We have every resource available to be elite. What we don’t have is the right attitude. We need an AD and a coach who absolutely hate losing, not an AD worried about balancing the checkbook and a coach worried about molding young men. The molding of young men went out the window with NIL and the transfer portal. It is direct pay for play whether our administration and boosters choose to see it or not. We can choose to be nostalgic and long for what college football used to be, or we can be cuthroat and accept what college football has become. “Winning with class” went out the door long ago. If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying. Not my words, but those of many SEC coaches. We cannot live in fear of another 80s probation. The NCAA is a toothless tiger. Michigan did worse than Pell and look at their punishment. We have money and over 500K living alumni, including some worth billions. But we lack the desire to win like others do.
I don't think a lack of commitment to the run game did us in. If anything, BN just gets everything wrong. I just don't get his play calling, it's always the wrong thing at the wrong time. That 3rd-down out wasn't a bad call, it was just horrible execution by the happy-footed QB. There was no pressure. Pitch and catch for an easy 1st down. Equally annoying is the 2nd and 2 after a strong run where he DOESN'T go play action. That's a waste of a play. And he did that a number of times, including in the red zone where, you know, you might want to take a shot at the end zone. Same thing on the drive after our TD. We force them 3 and out (I think) and that next play is just begging for play-action and something deep. SOS, Mullen would have absolutely looked to slash their throats right there. But we just hand it off several times and punt. No creativity when you need it. No guts. No taste for the jugular. Plays it safe then insults us by calling trick plays when they aren't needed. And don't even get me started on the sloppy execution in general and the QB who clearly needs a lot of work.
