But he lost his DC at UGA? That seems to be a good enough reason for players to become instantly eligible in the past.

I believe the new position coach tried to change his preferred position on the defense, that he was promised during the recruiting cycle, as if it didn't matter... Well it mattered to Brenton Cox.

Cox played, but not a ton of snaps. And perhaps buy-in isn't the right phrase to describe it, but when he was in there was always a noticeable lack of effort. Was it due to him clashing with the culture of the program? Was it something else? I have no idea.

But the tape is what it is and you're free to go back and watch some snaps. There was always a fair amount of loafing with him and some accompanying ass chewings that followed them.

    Not familiar....what is DEC?

I guess that's why he started the Sugar Bowl and had 6 tackles. If he hadn't loafed, I suppose he'd have had 10 tackles, right?

Again this is excuse making at its height. All freshmen do not know how to play with the consistency, intensity and speed of the SEC. They have to learn it. To think that because he is "lazy" and is tired of being harassed by those pesky coaches he will choose to go to a new coach who only has been able to win by being the more fit/conditioned and strong team (things he can control) because of lack of talent is not credible. He was in line to potentially start, so there is something deeper than effort going on here that had him on the outs with Uga's coaching staff.

Coaching chance is pretty much the reasoning behind Martell getting approved.

If he can stay out of trouble he could be a good/great player on this team. Let's hope it all works out great for everyone... coaches... player... school.

I think the transfer portal is the NCAA's inadvertent answer to college's paying players.. But this has nothing to do with Cox, I just thought about it.

Fields made an extremely bizarre decision when he chose UGA. He wasn't a good fit for their offense, and he was going to ride pine for two years. I have no idea how they convinced him to become a mutt.

Forgot to respond to this part last go around.

We signed Dwan Mathis last year and are heavily recruiting (and assumedly lead) for Caleb Williams in 2021. We appear to be pretty set on recruiting both styles of QB and going with the guy we feel gives us the best chance to win.

That's a fair enough comeback. The complaints about Cox's effort were pretty widespread last season among UGA fans, at least partly due to the high expectations people had for him. But I get why this looks like sour grapes as he goes out the door.

He's a great talent who seems like a prototypical NFL OLB just looking at him. There were obviously issues though. You don't cut loose a talent like that without them. Hopefully he can get them squared away and get this on track. I wish he were doing it somewhere other than in the SEC, but I'm fine pulling for him all but 1 game per year (just like I already do with Christian Robinson).

Lot of rumors about UGA and racism. Allegedly Coaches, fans, fraternities, ... said some things the black players found offensive. Should make the appeals process interesting

Yeah I get that, but it just seems the race card is way over played in all aspects of life. In my everyday life, I just seldom see it.
