My whole life I guess wing—wouldn’t know another way to live it—
I really like you and @wingtee, but I am a city boy that grew up with a lot of country folks from the South on the Southside of Chicago if you get my drift.
Got mine today. 22 days to opening day.
Now I gotta start beating the wife to the mailbox, LOL
mine arrived yesterday... now just waiting on SB tix to get here
“Start beating the wife”?!?...glad you added, to the mailbox!
Its Friday, January 25!!!
Gator baseball has arrived!!!
Pre-season practice starts today!!!
The long wait is over. Yayyyyyyyyy!
The smell of fresh cut grass—the crispness in the air—the way the laces on your cleats fit just right—the sound of your spikes striking the steps coming out of the dugout—
Hearing Coaches shouting encouragement as they start drills up—the crack of the bat as a fungo puts a ball in the direction of a player—the pop of leather as a play is made—
The sounds and smells of the start of the season—always fresh, always exciting, always good—
Read this the other day and chuckled. Of course, doesn't include anyone here (or my kids)
Some of you have never had their dad hit ground balls as hard as he can at you when you were 8 years old and it really shows
I applaud you for this contribution and insight Sir—
You are making me feel really old.
I love baseball and I really miss playing baseball even more. It is a great game with so much nuance. The difference between winning and losing is often less than a millimeter between where the ball hits the bat. But it is a young man's game and I am way too old to play it.
I still love watching it. Especially how pitchers work batters.
And I thought I was making you realize how much you love the game—
FLMAO! Nah, I’ve never been a member of the Slappahoe Tribe
I am a distant member of the Fuquawee Indian tribe.
We were a highly nomadic tribe nobody could track down.
US Cavalry members, vainly trying to locate us and getting lost themselves in the process, would frustratingly cry out:
"Where the Fuquawee?
Related to the Heckowhee tribe from F Troop?
Lurker, you have a great memory and that is exactly where I got that from.
F Group is a vastly underrated TV show.
While I may have a great memory, the joke about the Fuquawee's was known to me years before F-Troop was on TV. I am guessing you also heard the same joke well before F-Troop was on TV. For F-Troop they then had to PG rate it to the Hechowhees as F-Troop was not on cable.
I had not heard it before, no.
Officially in February now!
First pitch, right around the corner!
Don’t want to rush things...want the newbies to get in as much practice as possible, work out the kinks and all.
Get the season off to a good start!
But don’t peak too soon. I would imagine we probably won’t with all the youth. Hopefully we peak for the post-season.
I half-suspect this might be a “bridge” season....that is, with the youth, we will be looking super strong next year! But then again, I sorta feel the pressure is off this year and maybe without the target on our backs, we have some fun. Improve steadily....and we might pull a surprise at the end?!
