Coronavirus Update (Live): 275,184 Cases and 11,383 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Outbreak - Worldometer
There seems to be plenty of confusion surrounding the coronavirus, specifically many people thinking this is just flu-like and that "sanity" has been thrown out the window here. Quite the opposite, and this is nothing like the normal flu.

The flu kills between 0.1% - 0.15% of patients. Of the currently "closed" 76,317 coronavirus cases, 5,397 ended up in deaths. That's 7.1%. so 1 in 14 people that have had it have died. That's about 50-70 times more deadly than the flu.

Of the 67,710 current cases, 5,990..8.8% are in serious or critical condition. Based on historical data, that means that 80% of those people will die. The 3.7% number most are quoting are based on "total", which includes both current and closed - so that artificially inflates the denominator. They're not taking into account how many of those in serious or critical condition will die. That proof is in the "Closed Cases" number.

The president, Fox News, CNBC, etc...all these money money money news outlets are saying things like "hey, let's just let everyone get it so we can put all this craziness behind us so that the markets will settle" are out of their damn minds. Globally, that would mean 566,000,000 dead. In the U.S. that would mean 23.4 million people dead.

So, when you hear these self-serving sociopaths talk this being blown out of proportion and concern more for the stock markets than people's health, just remember these numbers. It's showing just how diabolical some peoples' minds are ....and how little they care for other humans...and how much MORE they care about money. That 1.5 trillion injection from the Feds to the banks yesterday was absolutely laughable, but that's another topic for another day...on Too Hot

THIS is the reality. It sucks that all our favorite sports have been canceled, but let's keep things in perspective here. This is a real pandemic that is parabolically increasing in numbers every day.

But, but, I have a friend who is a public health professional who personally has been having status meetings with the Chinese and Italians, but whose name I cannot reveal, but trust me he is high, high up - who says the entire episode is media-driven hype and that the fatality risk is actually akin to the common cold. This is legitimate information, I encourage you to circulate it online.

354 have people died TODAY. How is that media hype. It's up to 70 times deadlier than the flu, let alone common cold. Or were you being facetious in your post...

If this turns political I'll have no choice but to move it to Too Hot or probably lock it since there are already ongoing discussions over there. Other than that I see no reason we cannot have a reasonable discussion here on NBN about it.

I fully agree with you that this needs to be take seriously and the emergency actions are necessary. My only small point is that your numbers are skewed very high because the denominator representing those inflicted with Coronavirus is WAY higher than what is reported. We do not know the full extent of people who contracted the virus because we did not have the testing. We have no idea of how many people had it with minor symptoms and did not report it.

I understand it's just we have very strict rules about political controversy outside of TH. That was the reason it was created way back when.

With that said we can always delete a post that goes to the political side or block a poster who insists on doing so.

true, we'll do our best to keep politics entirely out of this. I was mainly referring to the media, but this is more about our personal health and safety. Sticking to the facts.

Joe Rogan just had a great guest on his podcast who spent 90 minutes on the virus that was very much worth a listen from my perspective. He'd wholeheartedly agree with this thread.

Figures don't lie, people who figure do.. or something along those lines. I don't trust any of the numbers I have read here or heard on the news because they are so different for many reasons. Your figures will support your argument/agenda its that simple.

I agree there are some out there that have it and don't know or report it, but there might also be those who have died of coronavirus that didn't know that was the cause
