Yeah, he got it way wrong and was rightly criticized. But I am happy he apologized. Right thing to do.

I'd suggest starting with a simple thought exercise speculating on what the spread would look like from not shutting down but only encouraging people to distance/wash hands.

All biz would be open, far more people would have to interact closely; disinfecting areas where people are would not be able to keep up with the social activity. Then consider how easy and fast this virus has spread, and how we lack of any immunity...vaxx...antivirals, and way behind testing.

What is the potential that we think remote?

As much as what is collectively known about disease and its spread, is as much as experts worry about what is possible from a novel virus outbreak and worst case scenarios. Even if remote, a catastrophic worst-case scenario could be far more likely than any--expert or not--could ever imagine. This inherent unpredictability and inability to reasonably consider the unimaginable is what sits at the heart of why 5-alarms go off with just one case.

And if the actions work, the wingers will claim it as proof that the actions weren’t warranted.

Only total oblivion will elicit a “well, maybe....” from those posters still typing.

    No immunity..no vaccine..RO north of 2.0...likely 60 - 70% infection if not higher

79% of Americans live in urban or suburban areas. Many of those living in the suburbs work in the city. Any outbreak in a city center with no precautions is likely to spread quickly as there is 0% immunity. In addition, people are contagious for a week before the onset of symptoms, and some have only mild symptoms.

With no precautions, 1/4 to 1/3 of the population getting infected seems low to me.

So in other words, Dr. Drew Pinsky is telling us that we need to be even more worried about an asteroid hitting the Earth than we are about coronavirus. Well, that's just great. When will the shelter in place orders be lifted so we can evacuate the coastlines and stockpile guns and ammo and raid the toilet paper factories?

Everybody that was spreading that misinformation should apologize. Fox News should dedicate a show or two to it.

I agree, but nowhere in that story did Dr. Drew Pinsky walk back his assertion that getting hit by an asteroid is an even greater concern than the coronavirus. Until astronomers weigh in on this, I'm going to sleep in a life raft, wear a motorcycle helmet, and stockpile KY jelly.

With a far higher death rate probably hitting 1-2 million total. More?

280 pages in and it amazes me that some people are still questioning if we should still take this seriously enough that it impacts the economy. Incredible.
How do people not see the gravity of the situation? Is Fox still spouting their stupidity and people are taking a cue off of that? Serious question as I would never be gullible enough to watch that trash but I know that was their party line forever.
