I'd rather have my loved ones alive and healthy than 30% of my stock portfolio back. I pity the people who care more about the stock market and their wealth than human lives.

Seen neighborhood parties but 4-5 couples on driveways sitting 10 feet apart from each other. Seems reasonable. Haven’t seen any indoor gatherings.

Took a walk in the Maine woods today with my family to see a waterfall.

Few people. Tons of space. Everyone we saw made clear adjustments and we never got within 50' of anyone except:

We were on a section of trail and a group (family?) of 6 was coming towards us. There was plenty of room to put a 20' buffer between our parties, but the oldest man in the group didn't alter his course an inch. I pulled my kids off the trail into the woods 10' as he and I made eye contact as he passed. His look was that of I-dont-give-a-shit and mine was that of I'd-like-to-kick-your-ass-right-now. Total dick move.

    The end.

Great flame post. Love it. I of course hate seeing my company and investments go down. What exactly are you suggesting as an alternative?

Pretend the virus is a hoax, let a bunch of people die, and still have the economy meltdown.

Original article on the first covid post on this board that I made Jan 20. On January 20. China admitted human to human, WHO said H 2 H but likely in close proximity.

Coronavirus Is Spreading Quickly Across China, as Confirmed Cases Triple

BEIJING—A leading Chinese health official said that a newly identified virus originating in central China has spread between humans, heightening health officials’ concerns that it could be transmitted more quickly as the country’s busiest travel season of the year begins.

The prospect of human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus, which causes a potentially deadly pneumonia that already has claimed three lives, is likely to raise fresh concern as tens of millions of Chinese citizens crisscross the country this week for the annual Lunar New Year holiday, the busiest travel period of the year.

The human spread of the virus and new cases reported Monday have heightened concern internationally. The World Health Organization said that Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will convene an emergency committee Wednesday to determine whether to declare the outbreak a public-health emergency of international concern. The designation signals risk that an outbreak could spread to other countries, and helps the WHO mobilize resources to prevent and combat that.

The WHO said Monday the spread of the disease was likely the product of “some limited human-to-human transmission occurring between close contacts.”

At least I will be around for those 10 years. Would you rather have 10 million + dead from the virus or have a depression. Recall that the mortality rate is with medical treatment available. Now eliminate ventilators and the mortality rate would likely go up to 10 - 15%. That would be 4 million + just in the US.

Xi says China faces 'grave situation' as virus death toll hits 42

BEIJING (Reuters) - President Xi Jinping said China was facing a “grave situation” as the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak jumped to 42, overshadowing Lunar New Year celebrations that began on Saturday.

it is really hard to get a grip on statistics on this. worldometer, which does theirs on GMT, 8pm to 8pm reported a 7000 drop in infections from yesterday with a 100 increase in deaths.why the big infection drop, were less tested today, is there a backlog in getting results, what? they use the same 24 hour period every day so that cannot be it.

weekend reporting from some locales is limited. Today were largely yesterday’s numbers and tomorrow will be Sunday's, so look at Tuesday before assuming any patterns.

Shortage of testing... but the U.S. has tested more people than any other country and it's not even close. Germany is next with about half of the tests we've done. Keep that narrative going though...

Today's deaths are down 165 from yesterday but that is the second Sunday in a row with a decrease from Saturday. We will know more tomorrow.

Yeh, I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed Austria is testing a higher percentage of their population than we are. Nice try, though.

There was clearly a drop today. There was such a backlog of tests, this was to be expected eventually. Hopefully, that trend continues.

The good news about some posters is you know it is going to be ignorant, don’t even have to waste time reading it.
