We got so much wrong. That said…the people have seen it. It unfortunately is going to be a long uphill battle for public health officials to build back trust.

I really feel for the doctors on the front lines. The lies have made their jobs so much harder!

Paxlovid is an anti-viral. It is two different drugs that essentially inhibit replication of the virus already there. By limiting the amount of the virus, it allows the immune system to do its job on the remaining virus. It is not a perfect drug given the “rebounds” we see. One day, we will likely have better options. But, at the outset of this and even now, mitigation and speed have been critical.

How many people would have died if we had adopted the GBD? The virus was far more virulent at the beginning. And it didn’t spread at the rate it does now. But, there was no immunity and nobody had immune systems trained to properly respond to the virus. And, as we have seen, we would never have reached herd immunity.

I just got off the phone with a guy that does a bunch of work for me. He never got Covid until after he got both shots and boosted early this year. So he went nearly 2 years without getting Covid. He has had it twice in the last 4 months and been positive for the last 10 days. Said he has never been so sick.

I still haven't met any unvaccinated people that have had Covid twice.

I don’t know. And neither do you. I could speculate fewer even when considering direct deaths with Covid and leaving out the collateral damage of indirect deaths from lockdowns and shutdowns along with the mental illness and setting back of our kids.

The same groups of people died whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. If we had focused on the high risk groups only and did not push coercive tactics…I think you would have seen even less hesitancy from those in high risk groups. But we decided to slam this thing on everyone and ignore natural immunity. And instead of backing off actually keep the pedal down.

It has been an abject disaster the way this was handled.

"Among 15 244 HCWs who participated in the study, 4978 (32.7%) were diagnosed with COVID-19. The mean (SD) age was 36.6 (10.3) years, and 55.0% were male. The reinfection incidence density was 7.26 (95% CI: 6.09-8.66) per 100 person-years (124 HCWs [2.5%], total person follow-up period of 1696 person-years as time at risk). Fully vaccinated HCWs had lower risk of reinfection (HR, 0.14 [95% CI, 0.08-0.23]), symptomatic reinfection (HR, 0.13 [95% CI, 0.07-0.24]), and asymptomatic reinfection (HR, 0.16 [95% CI, 0.05-0.53]) compared with unvaccinated HCWs. Accordingly, among the 3 vaccine categories, reinfection was observed in 60 of 472 (12.7%) of unvaccinated (incidence density, 18.05 per 100 person-years; 95% CI, 14.02-23.25), 39 of 356 (11.0%) of partially vaccinated (incidence density 15.62 per 100 person-years; 95% CI, 11.42-21.38), and 17 of 1089 (1.6%) fully vaccinated (incidence density 2.18 per 100 person-years; 95% CI, 1.35-3.51) HCWs. The estimated effectiveness of BBV152 against reinfection was 86% (95% CI, 77%-92%); symptomatic reinfection, 87% (95% CI, 76%-93%); and asymptomatic reinfection, 84% (95% CI, 47%-95%) among fully vaccinated HCWs. Partial vaccination was not associated with reduced risk of reinfection."

I have never met any Hungarians. I am fairly confident that they exist however.

The premise that the vaccine makes one more likely to become infected 1x or 2x is idiotic. What is likely is that people continue to demonstrate gross ignorance of science, get vaccinated and act like they are wearing some magic shield and then go and put themselves in high exposure situations.

Boom, infection due to ignorance or indifference. Not a vaccine problem, a human problem.

Despite what everyone thinks we are still in the middle of a global pandemic of a novel virus that infects the respiratory tract as a primary infection point.

To add to this, the risk of reinfection is 10x greater for the unvaccinated than the fully boosted, per the Jan 2022 article I previously shared.

If you truly felt for doctors on the front line, you'd be vaccinated and you'd have been encouraging others to have gotten vaccinated and to take the many precautions. Instead, we get you railing against everything that makes sense as if it was all about your individual and ill-informed choice, not a deadly pandemic.

That is roughly 1/10th of the impact of the flu. I'm not getting my kid the flu shot, why would I get them a shot for something only 1/10th as dangerous?

Covid has accomplished many things, two being that it exposed the widespread prevalence of science illiteracy in the US and the susceptibility and thus psychological vulnerability to mis & disinformation--aided in large part by social media. We can all be victims of the latter, but there is a swath of the public that was primed for it due to marinating in an increasingly strident and irrational political ideology by a political party that has railed against science and reason for the better part of three decades now.

Pure nonsense. The doctors on the front lines know the lies that have been used to coerce people instead of using science and medicine to proceed through this. Now they have to deal with the scars of lost trust thanks to a few idiots who were wrong on so much. And did so while ignoring basic science and medicine.

You are better off ignoring that poster. He fought for over a year about natural immunity being worse than the vaccine. He literally tries scare tactics to get people to get vaccinated, especially kids.

All of what you write is backwards. You railed against imaginary problems or those in which you still, to this day, don't get why. And the GBD as your chosen source for your views help explain why you don't get it.
