Explain to me why this team was a 10 seed when their NET ranking was 25? That's 7/6 seed territory. Meanwhile, we should have easily been a 6 seed and some were even saying 5 seed. So not only do we get a crappy seeding, but we have to face arguably the most underseeded team in the whole field. That was as much of a screw job as last night's refs IMO. BTW Colorado's KenPom is currently 21. That's ahead of Kentucky and Kansas who were 3 and 4 seeds.
I get the 16-seeds, but can someone fill me in on why 10-seeds have a play-in game? Sorry Calipari haters, but I was nodding along in agreement last week when Cal said the first game of a tournament is often the most dangerous for a talented team. I think UF's March Madness history supports that theory. So with that in mind, I feel like it was a disadvantage to have to a play a similarly seeded team who had already gotten that first game out of the way. I didn't even realize there was a possibility we'd be playing someone from a play-in game when I heard we were a 7 seed. Never did like the idea of doing that.
Whatever. I hope they get curb stomped. In fact, it’s probably the only part of the tourney left that would keep me interested. That big pile of Lampkin turd who kept showboating & mocking …would love nothing more to see that guys disappoint when they get smoked.
Sean commented that after his late bucket, before his free throw attempt, he walked all the way over to our bench on the other end and laughed at our team. I didn't see it but they showed TFG's reaction.
The PAC-12 was not a particularly good conference this season. I’m not sure that Colorado even deserved a bid. Their non-conference schedule sucked. They lost to FSU. Their best non-conference win was over Richmond. We played zero defense against them, and it cost us the game.
I thought that shot when it bounce up was not going in then it fell back and I fell on the floor. Tough way to lose but proud of them.
Yeah, when I saw we were paired with them, I had a bad feeling. We definitely could have beaten them, but it was a harder game than it should be for a 7 seed in the first game of the tournament. We got screwed. That's why you have to do better in the regular season and get a better starting seed. Gives you better margin.
Outside of Arizona, the PAC was weak. Both UCLA and USC were expected to be good, but neither were above .500. Oregon came on late but only made the dance by b winning the PAC-12 Tournament. Colorado barely squeaked in. To answer the question why #10 seeds were in the First Four play-ins, the last 4 at-larges play in the First Four. Their seed is dependant upon how many auto bid schools are ranked lower than at-larges. With bid stealers like Oregon and NC State winning their conference tournaments, and getting #11 seeds, it meant the last at-large teams were #10 seeds.
My point is that some of our best teams had some of our worst scares in first round games, including needing some end-of-game luck to survive them.
Thanks for the info. I'd still rather not have to play a team in the first round that has already played and won a tournament game.
If our game was the only "whoa" game in the first round then I could see being miffed. There were WAY worse things happening than losing to Colorado. Auburn (not really Kentucky) was "WHOA!!!".
Doesn’t matter. We were the better team even with them going off offensively. We just got screwed with phantom fouls on blocks push off allowed to win the game and more. MH plays and we win the game by double digits despite the refs because we have 5 extra fouls to work with which we clearly needed due to their horrific calls against us.
My Auburn fan friend sent a profane text early in the 2nd half of their game saying he was checking out of the game to review their spring football roster and asking the refs in the Auburn game to "eff" themselves. Auburn was ahead at that point. I only saw the last few seconds of that game.
I think this is another example of people focusing too much on metrics. Look at their schedule - they didn’t play anyone out of conference and only had a few Quad 1 wins in a really weak PAC-12. In two games against Arizona they lost by a combined 67 points.
