Does this mean lawyers/agents, contracts and possible strikes?

    No thank you.

If the NFL wants a minor league they can foot the bill for this experiment... leave the Universities out of it.

But I do like the idea of a different governing body. The NCAA is ridiculously flawed and rigged.

Dumb idea, also interesting that the "Power 5" likes the current arrangement more, but this proposal is more favored by the remainder of the college football universe.

I'm guessing that means the money distribution would be more favorable to the smaller programs vs. the current arrangement, and there probably isn't much more to it than that. It's always about the $$$.

    So, I read-

Give us all of your bowl proceeds ($600 million) and we will make the rules on who’s eligible and by what rules we play. Sound good?

    I want in.

100% chance some variation of this happens. No idea when, but the writing has been on the wall for ~5 years.

Sounds good, would like to see the Power 5 only play games with each other, no more games vs cupcakes from the AAC.

Other implications may arise and unintended consequences pop up. One I can think of is would this new system allow programs to not have to share monies with non revenue generating sports? If the money is made outside the NCAA, why should they have to fund other sports within the NCAA umbrella?

There are a LOT of problems in the current arrangements. If football went to an independent model I think you would see more sanity in the remaining sports (including men's basketball). It is just plain silly to have Missouri play Florida in volleyball (or pick your sport) because football forced these conference alignments.

I still believe 4-16 team football conferences is the best. The Vandy's of the world get moved to a different conference. Strictly a big-boys conference.

Oh, and allow unfettered transfers between the two.

Not sure what to think about this, but I believe some variation of it is forthcoming over the next decade. The NCAA is so inept and inconsistent a new management structure almost couldn’t be any worse.

I don’t like the idea of D1 schools leaving the NCAA but still subsidizing it & the FBS schools as outlined in the article. If there’s a departure from the NCAA it should be a clean break including all D1 revenues.

Yes, yes, and yes! Make P5’s a separate division, and the G6 a separate division with their own championship.

This was mentioned in Sports Illustrated (back when it mattered). I hate to see some of the changes in recent years like the transfer portal where guys leave because they didn't get there way, opting out on your teammates (quitting, deserting){Will Grier at WVA} shows lack of good character and loyalty. Abandoning your buds because you feel like you've been denied just plain sucks.

That is an excellent point...I guess it would be up to the individual universities as to how the money is allocated but there would be some that would put all the money towards football and eliminate the other sports.

They'll make more money being free from the NCAA, which creates space for revenue sharing back to other sports. There are many ways to solve the example you shared - which is definitely something they'll need to address.

Title IX is not going away. If you think that Congress is going to change that law -regardless of which political party is in power- you aren’t being realistic.

Maybe I'm just so sick of the NCAA and school hypocrisy of taking hundreds of millions, paying coaches millions, ignoring athletic/academic violations, denying injured athletes medical care after they leave school (paralyzed kid in Texas sued for support and was denied) and pretending that this is not a business that I want something to change. Not sure what this means and likely to create many new problems.

Not sweating small schools turning back into athletics as activities for kids rather than businesses, and maybe some smaller sports ride buses more instead of flying. Hope they don't drop "minor" sports but just treat them as the non-revenue generating activities they are (of course, gonna have to deal with title 9).
