Stories like this one are exactly why I'm a Gator basketball fan. We've always recruited high character kids. This one sounds special. Takes a ton of maturity to help out Bassett after practice and not want to dominate (like I believe he easily could've) during pickup games.

True, and it might lead to problems defending quick 6’7” ish forwards... except I think KJjr plays bigger than his height. Really excited for this year!

the benefits of Tim Tebow just keep a-coming!)
Tim needs to come over for a game or two...
Meet up with KJ at center court for a hug!
Get THAT video on the news and on various social platforms and watch it go viral!

Great read. Kid’s got a great mindset and the leader we need for this young team.

A player who was 2nd team All ACC would be POY in many conferences.

Yeah, he went on a tear in February for a while, averaging over 20 points and over 10 rebounds a game. Posted some big numbers against Duke.

Thanks for the info. So we are getting a player who probably was one of the 5 best ACC players at year end.

Is there any indication that Blackshear at some point during games will switch to a stretch four position with Gak or Payne entering as center to guard the net and rebound?

I doubt that will be a base look for us but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mike try it out a few times to see what happens.

That's anyone's guess. The ACC is full of high-caliber players. All I can say for sure is that we're getting one of them, and a top inside player with great basketball IQ and a team-first guy.

The more I learn about him and see video of him, I can't help but be reminded of a certain former Gator :)

I expect Bassett to be a solid contributor.

At times last year you saw glimpses of what you hoped he would bring to the table on a consistent basis. I believe with another year of practice he may surprise us in a good way!

Yep. He's steadily improved over his whole tenure. He won't set the world on fire but he can hold his own when he enters the game now.

He has a nice jump shot, but you can tell that he doesn't have a huge amount of confidence in it. If he can develop confidence in a nice 10-15 foot jumper, that extra offensive element that defenses would have to deal with would open things up for the rest of his offensive repertoire.

Something happened last year. I am not sure it was because they asked him to focus on something he was not adept. He really went AWOL.

The year before, he WAS the 2-3 zone breaker as he took the pass at the top of the key and made the correct pass or shot - and made - it. Last year...nothing.

I have to think the change from Cheez to AN was a big reason.

Is it possible you are romanticizing Bassett's 42 total points from 2 years ago?
