After being hired by the Jaguars, Urban Meyer has begun assembling his coaching staff. Now, he has reportedly added former Texas head coach Charlie Strong as an assistant.

According to Brett McMurphy of Stadium, Strong will be coming down to Jacksonville as a defensive assistant. McMurphy thinks Strong will take on the role of linebackers coach.

Most recently, Strong was a defensive analyst for Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama. Previously, Strong was the head coach at Louisville, Texas, and USF. HIs combined record as a college head coach is 74-53.

From 2010 through 2013, Strong found a lot of success as Louisville's head coach. In his last two seasons with the Cardinals, Strong went a combined 23-3. After that, Texas hired Strong to be its next head coach. Strong never really got his feet under him with the Longhorns as he failed to record one winning season and had an overall record of 16-21. Strong was then the head coach at USF from 2017 through 2019. After going 10-2 in his first year with the Bulls, but he got fired after a 4-8 season in 2019.

Damn...I'm a big fan of Strong as a D coach and was hoping he would join back up with Gators especially with Robinson leaving.

Meyer knows good coaches, and knows how important his staff is.

Meyer is a decent recruiter of players and coaches. And the corch can coach...Best of luck to Meyer. Hope Mullen can secure some hot shot recruiter "D" coaches.

    Go Gators.

Time to look forward, not back. 'Getting the band back together' isn't the answer for CDM.

Hmm, a lot of college coaches fail in the NFL because they bring college assistants, be interesting to see the rest of the staff.

Yes. Because without a good staff, he can’t coach. I believe he will do well in the NFL.

Can't look much worse. Gonna be an uphill climb for Urban. Fans need to be patient.

Many wil be shocked how well Meyer does. 5 picks in the top 65 with 2 bring top 11 picks. 70 million in cap space. He’ll win more games in his first year than most will predict.

Who would ever have predicted that Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong would be back together coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars ?

I'd like to see some hires with League experience.
Plus I gotta think his input on GM will be huge.

Spot on. His greatest attribute as a coach is spotting personal. Frankly, I think he’s suited to be a manager or GM.

He makes it work on the sideline with coaches that are all better than he is as an actual X’s and O’s guy but he can pick them like the best. Think of all the great coaches and players that wen through him.

His only problem is he is now in a league with much more parity at every spot including players and coaches. I’ll enjoy watching how he does as an NFL coach and GM. Ill be rooting for him and interested in seeing what he does.

Won’t happen but imagine if CDM was Meyers OC in JAX. Won’t happen because if CDM goes, it will be for an HC position.
