Stoops did a deep zone a lot also, was better than Charley, but Quinn was head and shoulders above both of them.

Proof is in the pudding, so to speak. The pros came after Quinn quickly, as in demand. Seahawks with him Super Bowl, great defense a couple of years, then the head coaching job at Atlanta.

nd he has the 23rd ranked defense in the nfl. Probably not because he’s a bad coach, maybe talent level. Great talent has a way of helping equally as much as coaches.

    Great “Apocalypse Now” quote! ;)

Go to right near the end at around the 2:35 mark for the quote.

Well, who knows. Has to mean something when they do visit. Can analysts help on field, advise or work with students in any capacity? Someone will know.

I’m not reading through all of this. Cliff notes on how the heck Strong went from a Gator lock analyst to the same for Bama?! Was it them paying more or what? This blows.

General consensus - because it's Bama. Doesn't matter that Strong coached at UF for nearly a decade and got a degree here. Saban wants, Saban gets.

And, I agree, it blows (for us). But probably good for him.

It's all part of the master plan. Charlie learns from the master and when Todd gets a promotion, we swoop in and "steal" Charlie from bama. It makes for a great headline.

I’ve got to wonder how committed Charley Strong would be to a job paying less than 5% of the last position he held when he was not totally committed to that job. IMO, his analysis of opposing offenses might be valuable but how to stop them would be in conflict with Grantham’s scheme. CDM’s staff seems to have exceptional chemistry. Why risk compromising that for an analyst position?

And let’s be honest, one could make the case Charlie needs to learn from the best how to be a complete HC. Who better?

Maybe he was worth more to Bama than he was to UF.

Looks like Bama dodged a bullet today, Nick talked Sark out of the Colorado job. Losing him now would’ve been a big blow.

Lyle is getting a new title....wax on, wax off.

Alabama: Matt Zenitz is reporting Butch Jones new title at Alabama is likely to be special assistant to Nick Saban.

Clearly. And that boggles the mind.

Maybe it’s because of Charley’s history at Florida and the fact that at his age and experience, he’s ridiculously overqualified to be just an analyst and.....perhaps CDM and Grantham wanted to avoid a power struggle on the defensive staff. All that risk for a guy who will likely be on to bigger and better things within a year. And Charley is better off with the year under Saban on his resume than one more year at UF.

I hope Todd Grantham isn’t going anywhere until after he’s able to put together his defense.

    Go Gators

why are you assuming it has to be an improvement to replace? Or are you assuming Grantham isn't on many shortlists for HC opportunities and eventually the right one will come up and he'll interview hard for it. Come on now. keep up.
