Felecity Huffman was a Desperate Housewife, but you probably
know her famous actor-husband William H Macy from 'Fargo'.
I saw them both vacationing down in Laguna Beach a year ago.

You have to pay for a facility on campus if you want to accomplish this in an acceptable way.

Lori Loughlin is best known for the ABC sitcom Full House (1987),
appearing in the series from 1988 to 1995. Mostly just a pretty face IMHO.

I didn't realize that stroking a check to a university to facilitate your kid's admission was illegal.

Unless you have someone like Foley making the final decisions, then the facilities never get built.

Reads as if the universities are at least equally complicit - recruiting kids as athletes for sports they have never played. I wonder which side came up with the scheme?

edit: I see River's post indicating it was a middleman/academic entrepreneur.

at least the coaches were allegedly involved. no evidence that I've seen that it includes other administration or admissions. though I certainly imagine that's possible

Yeh …… I know Frank Gallagher!!!! BTW … doesn't William H Macy have ties to Gainesville? My wife ran into him @ Butler Plaza one day … his parents live in Gville or maybe some other family.

I think his parents live or lived here - used to get my hair cut (Wild Hair) and the hair cutter had an autographed photo of Macy he/she got from his mother. Macy played the dad in the Netflix series Shameless. Really good actor.

That's not what they did. They defrauded the national standardized tests system by paying for scores that their children did not earn. They also paid to have their children recruited as NCAA athletes for sports they did not play.

"The alleged crimes, according to officials, involved cheating on entrance exams,
as well as bribing college officials to say certain students were coming to compete
on athletic teams when those students were not in fact athletes."

"Some of the 32 defendants are accused of bribing administrators to facilitate
cheating on college-entrance exams – by having a smarter student take the test,
providing students with answers to exams or correcting their answers after they
had completed the exams, according to the criminal complaint filed in federal court."

Others allegedly bribed university athletic coaches and administrators to designate
applicants as “purported athletic recruits – regardless of their athletic abilities, and
in some cases, even though they did not play the sport they were purportedly recruited
to play – thereby facilitating their admission to universities in place of more qualified
    applicants,” the complaint charges.

Huffman is accused of paying $15,000 – disguised as a charitable donation – to the Key
Worldwide Foundation so her oldest daughter could participate in the scam. A confidential
informant told investigators that he told Huffman he could arrange for a third party to
correct her daughter’s answers on the SAT after she took it. She ended up scoring a 1420
    – 400 points higher than she had gotten on a PSAT taken a year earlier, according to court
    documents.

Huffman also contemplated running a similar scam to help her younger daughter, but
ultimately did not pursue it, the complaint alleges.
