Oh God you just reminded me of another one.....Not really famous maybe semi famous. A few months before I retired I was sent out to work a complaint. 1970's TV evangelist/ faith healer Leroy Jenkins had moved to Orlando and was having a house remodeled. He had a fight with his contractor (who he had reneged payment on and filed a complaint on). When I got out of my truck and walked up to Reverend Jenkins he put his hand on my chest and said "The lord spoke to me and said you were having some issues in this area" I answered "You are talking to a 65 year old fat man with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, it doesn't take the lord to make that diagnosis".

PS: Leroy Jenkins was a real scumbag google rev Leroy Jenkins and you will learn what a jerk he was, certainly in it for the money.

Met Michael Jackson at Disney World on a school trip. He was filming Captain Eo. Fortunately, the whole class with as all the teachers and chaperones were there.

Plenty of U of Arizona former athletes including Lute Olson, Terry Francona, Steve Kerr, Damon Stoudamire, Tedy Bruschi, and Josh Pastner, to name a few. Can't forget Jennie Finch!

When Kevin Costner was filming Tin Cup, I met him at a USC at Arizona football game. He wasn't the warmest of people.

Was on a business flight from Atlanta to Tampa in 1985 and sat next to Virgil Runnels. He was very friendly and interesting to talk to.

In 1976 I was selling insurance and had an appointment at a house in Kissimmee. When I came out there were 4 guys tossing a frisbee next door. The Frisbee came over towards me, and I dropped my briefcase and snagged it and tossed it back. One of the guys came walking over and introduced himself as Dennis Yost. I actually asked him for an appointment to talk about his life insurance needs, and surprisingly he gave it. That Thursday evening when I got there, there must have been 100 people in the back yard. To make a long story short, I sold him a $25,000 whole life policy and then sat down and drank a beer while they played all their songs. it was crazy, exciting, and fun.

In 1980, I was the Manager of the Burger King in front of the OAKS MALL. Went to a buffet restaurant off 441 and was sitting by myself when Chris Collinsworth came over and asked if he could join me. He had just gotten back from his first off season workout with the Bengals. We had a great conversation about UF athletics.

In my Disney days I got to meet Anita Bryant, David Clayton Thomas, Dean Jones, Annette Funicello, and many more.

Been enjoying this thread, just noticed folks are including political figures as celebrities, in a previous segment of my professional life I worked with and in many cases for political figures from Presidents, US Senators and Florida governors
Bill Clinton, worked security for him and Hill when they visited Gvl, I was more excited to spend time with the National press core than the then soon to be first couple.
Wannabes Al Gore, and Gary Hart (a week before he left the stage) had drinks with each, same for John Glenn and Joe Biden (in 84).
some of my favorites were Gov Lawton Chiles, very down to earth same for Reuben 'the Good' Askew. Good friend and colleague of Gov Bob Martinez for years prior to him getting elected, used to eat at his restaurant in Tampa Cafe Seville.
scores of Florida legislators, big city Mayors, Martinez and Buddy Dyer etc, my favorite would be Buddy MacKay, lived in Ocala now in Lake Weir and was as fair minded and progressive an individual as I have ever met. Met George Wallace at a campaign stop in Ft Pierce where I was teaching when he was running for Pres in 70 or 71.
lots of stories for another day......

Pick one and tell us. We have the time :)

When I was just a little kid in kindergarten in Georgia JFK, drove by my school when he was running for President. I think he had landed at Ft Benning and was on his way to Warm Springs (where FDR died). Anyway I was just a little kid and the man on the back of the convertible waving at our entire school that was standing on the front lawn meant nothing to me but it sure did to the lunch room ladies - the only blacks at our school. As JFK drove by I noticed 2 of them were crying and another had her hands over her mouth. I've never forgotten that and now I realize how much hope they must have had in that man in the car to change things for the better

The best memory would have to be sitting with the best of the best of national political reporters and columnists at the 1984 Democratic Convention in San Fran and getting to hear Ann Richards, Jesse Jackson, Mario Cuomo and Geraldine Ferraro deliver magnificent speeches, I have written some pretty good speeches in my day but the success really turns on the delivery by the principal and to hear this quartet of top tier orators was a thrill of a lifetime for a political junkie like me.
I knew Martinez the best and learned a lot from him, Liked Lawton and Buddy MacKay the best, Askew was a bit stiff when I worked with him, Biden and Hart were the most down to earth, Hart's indiscretions hurt the most he would have been a change agent had he won. Biden had the best sense of humor and Clinton was the best in a crowd he intuitively related with working people and the folks who write the big checks but we all know his flaws and Hart's. Bib Graham was perhaps the smartest of the politicos I've known toss up between Graham, Clinton and Hart. Met Dukakis but never really connected with him like I did with the others.
If I was going fishin' I'd go with Lawton, Church with Askew, Harvard with Graham, to a pub with Biden, to dinner with Martinez he knew all the best spots anywhere, to lunch with MacKay.

Patrick Dempsey. Met him in the garage at Daytona a few times. I met him once when the garage was empty and got to chat and he offered to sign my hat without me even asking.
On race wknd 3 weeks later I was admiring a new Aston Martin, when the other team car parked next to it in the support series garage. Sweet sounding V12, literally the first 5 miles put on the cars that day. The driver takes his helmet and balaclava off and its Patrick. It was funny I said "I didn't know you were in this race too." There was a crowd watching for him by the other garage of the car he was co-driving in the 24 Hours.

I also met Brian Johnson of AC/DC a few times. He is the coolest man on earth. We have mutual friends in racing and music, small world.

I met lots of MTV Spring Break artists and celebs in the 80s and early 90s.
Have met more race car drivers than I could list. Mostly Nascar and Sportscars. Still know a few dirt sprint and oval asphalt teams.

I saw Tyra Banks on I-95 driving a emerald green mustang. Going south, near Miami. She passed me on the right and when I passed her back (slow) in traffic our eyes met and I knew it was her. Wow she was pretty. I was on my way to the Orange Bowl to see the Gators rout Maryland. Who knew it would be SOS' last game as coach?

The Giant wrassler showed up at a bike week motorcycle demo derby stunt thrill show I was helping with. I was on pit road, New Smyrna. He was brought to me and I said 'Welcome to Bike Week and Daytona'. He put his hand out so I shook it. Holy crap he is a giant. That is the hand he picked people up by the neck with! He said Thanks and I directed him around the pryotechnics so he didn't get blown up. He loved the event.

I did run into Collinsworth on the Championship Club lobby at the swamp. I was wearing an 80's orange jersey and was with my buddy who was classmates. The number on the jersey was 81. Someone tapped me on the shoulder, and Chris was cracking up at me. I told him "hey I got it on sale for $25". He totally busted out laughing, he and I both got the joke. Cool dude.

Met Amy Mann backstage at Park West in Chicago in 1992. A close friend invited me to see Till Tuesday right before they broke up. I met him at the door and low and behold, our names were on the guest list along with back stage passes. I asked Christian how he pulled that off and he told me Amy was his half sister. I'd known him for three or four years and had never heard him speak of her. We hung out with the band for a couple of hours after the show eating Chinese food and drinking Singha. Amy was cool but kind of reserved. The rest of the band was very cool.

Was in LA producing TV commercials or three months in late 93/early 94 and saw a lot of celebrities on that trip. Spent an hour alone with Mandy Patinkin in the fitness room at Shutters on Beach in Santa Monica back in '93. We didn't say much to each other.

Got in an elevator with Jason Williams and Vlade Divac. He was excited to meet a fellow Gator.

Ran into an old friend who had been the sports anchor at the NBC affiliate back in Panama City before moving on to ESPN. He was sitting in the lobby chatting with Mike Dunleavy. He recognized me right away and called me over to say hello and introduce me to Coach D.

Came back to the hotel one night after a Christmas party in west Hollywood and joined a singalong in the lobby with a bunch of other guests while Billy Joel played Christmas songs on a baby grand. Christy and their baby girl were in the crowd.

There was a guy in the downstairs bar who looked familiar. He sat next to me and started hitting on the bartender. We all started chatting film stuff and this guy and I got into a dumb argument about who was the better director, John Singleton or Spike Lee. The guy half heartedly threatened to kick my ass. Found out later that it was Chris Penn. If I'd known that, I would have let him beat the crap out of me. That would have been a much better story.

I'm old and used to go a lot of places here and there...so I've had the Gump Factor in meeting people. Not bragging, just blind luck. So here we go.

Doris Day in a restaurant in early 80s in Carmel by the Sea. Drank hard liquor w/ Dandy Don Meridith when he was in his prime on MNF (I had to drive him to airport in early 70s). Sophia Loren on the boat into DisneyWorld. Pres George W Bush. Tom Cruise and Billy Crystal, I was the 3rd in a 20 minute wait for an elevator at an extra inning game at Yankee Stadium, I 'm sure they wondered who is this guy and why is he here? Hank Stram in a bar drinking beer. John McKay, thru mutual friends, several lunches. Mickey Mantle and many Yankee players. Lou Pinella. Tommy Hit Man Hearns on the streets of New Orleans, bumped into him and talked for a while, he was friendly. Rick Casares. Many many Gator greats over the years, funniest being Bates. Charley Pell and I became friends, kind of, exchanged birthday presents and Christmas cards. Steve Stricker, Rocco Mediate, and several pro golfers due to proximity. Eddie DeBartolo. Hugh Culverhouse. George Steinbrenner, who was really gracious and generous.

Many famous race car drivers, dinner w/ David Hobbs. Mario and Michael Andretti. Paul Newman when he was racing. Michael Schmacher, Michele Alberto, Eddie Cheever, Carroll Shelby, etc.

I did run into Urban a couple times, both before basketball games. Both times he was on his cell phone working it. I just gave him the thumbs up and he smiled with a look of "thanks for not bugging me". I knew he was just doing his job.

I’ve met 3 Presidents (Clinton, GW Bush, and Trump). All couldn’t have been nicer and more gracious. They were all great at making me feel like I was the only other person in the room.

Living in the DC area you see a lot of politicians. Seen Obama on the golf course a couple times. Saw RBG at the St. Regis while I was on a date. (She is tiny). I was sitting in the Men’s locker room lounge when Sean Spicer (also not tall) walked into to grab some M&M’s, which the club puts out along with Jelly Bellies or at least used to.

I just remembered doing a field inspection on a house on the golf course in Bay Hill when the tournament was going on. Let's just say that was the longest field inspection I ever did. :)

If you do much work in Bay Hill keep an eye out for a house that encroaches on the front setback. LOL I screwed up and finaled the house in the 90s and failed to check the survey. When it was brought to my attention a few years later I told the owner who just happened to be a huge developer to cover it up or he would be on my shit list. Someday he will probably sell the house and the error will be discovered. But I'm retired so no skin off my ass.
