How many of you remember the season Orel Hershiser dominated and toyed with pretty much everyone? Up until that season (1988?), he was known as a solid starter with good stuff, but I would seriously consider taking him on my staff if I could have that particular version of him.

Yep, I do recall Orel's one awesome year.

I recall 1968. Don Drysdale and Bob Gibson had incredible years. Drysdale tossed about 51 scoreless straight innings. Gibson had a season ERA of 1.21.

Good to see that Al Lopez agreed with the other old timers that I knew about Walter Johnson. The stories they told were unreal.

Was that the year he broke the consecutive shutout innings record of Drysdale?

Pretty sure that would be correct.

That was a record I thought would never be broken. Much like 7 no hitters by Ryan.

But records are meant to be broken.

Lol—I agree about the records are meant to be broken—cept in the case of Ryan’s 7 No-Hitters. I truly believe that one is safe.

McLain won 31 games that year with a 1.96 ERA.

    The mound was then lowered.

The one that is safer is Ty Cobb's steals of home with 54.

What is not mentioned in the recap of the Carleton year was how awful his team was. 59-97. Steve won almost half of their games that they won that year.
