Florida State Football: Mike Norvell era is coming to an end

    by Austin Lloyd

The Florida State Seminoles have been one of college football’s punching bags over the past several years, having not seen a winning season since 2017–a drought that is seemingly not going to come to an end under head coach Mike Norvell.

Looking at what awaits the Seminoles this Fall, there are several opponents that are clearly better than them today. Such opponents include LSU, Louisville, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Clemson, Miami, and Florida in that order.

Assuming that FSU succumbs to all seven of those foes (which is quite possible), the program will miss the postseason–and burn up an entire year of what is supposed to be a rebuild–once again. There is no way that Norvell comes out of a stretch that rough with his future in Tallahassee secure.

During the short-lived days of Willie Taggart (a man that Florida State football fans couldn’t wait to see disappear), the floor was 5-7. That now seems to be the ceiling, though, as Norvell only has eight wins with the ‘Noles
in total. He has had a couple of years to build something at the program to build something at the program and has shown no progress whatsoever.

Who is Austin Lloyd? Or, should I say, who cares what he thinks?

I think they will be better this year and end up 7-5 or 8-4 if they beat us.

They are a patient school and I don’t think they want to go through a coaching change so soon.

A cruel (crystal ball) twist for Florida State Football
    by Chris Peterson

Not much has gone right for Florida State football head coach Mike Norvell since he took over the job of leading the Seminoles. The performance on the field has been bad, and at times, the recruiting operation has been worse such as losing the No. 1 overall prospect, Travis Hunter, on signing day to Jackson State. Norvell certainly had egg on his face after that one and after Brock Glenn committed to Ohio State, he’s going to have it all over his face again.

Florida State football had a four-star quarterback committed in Chris Parson. But then the relationship went quiet and the Noles started focusing on Brock Glenn, a four-star out of Memphis — the city where Norvell was formerly the head coach. But it looks like that won’t happen.

Right around the same time, Parson, the long-time four-star decommitted from FSU, and had the Noles landed Glenn, it wouldn’t have seemed like a big deal.

Florida State probably preferred Glenn and upgraded. That’s how it would have looked. Now, with Ohio State trending with crystal ball projections, just hours before the announcement, it looks like the Noles will be left without a four-star QB or any QB commitment of any kind in 2023, at least for now. Florida State will have to turn their attention to other 2023 signal-callers or maybe even 2024. The pickings are slim and for Norvell, the way this whole thing went down, just makes his recruiting strategy seem totally inept.

Not sure I agree with patience. They showed Bobby patience but given what he did for them he deserved some.

The issue is that they are hurting for $. They can scam some $ off the state for infrastructure but not for NIL

While they never should have cut ties with him (woke bullshit) it seems that they have figured out a way for Sam Childers to do heavily discounted construction for them again. I knew they would slither back to him I was just hoping he would tell them to go F themselves.

IMO they deserve every bit of the mess they are in and more. I hate Georgia and Miami more, but for some reason I enjoy FSU’s misery more than Miami’s.

fsu's fanbase is really no different from ours or many other successful schools. We too would lose patience for a coach if progress wasn't made and quick. If there is no change or hope within 3 years many of us too would want change. A 500 season for sow will have the natives restless and most likely he will be fired.

If they lose to all of those teams, get ready to welcome the Deion Sanders era of FSU football.

Yes but it's different this year as they can pick up free agents should their fan base pay enough, they've still got fans with money.

If they can't fix it by buying players they are likely screwed long term.

Their money, as well as Miami's, might be better spent trying to buy their way in to a conference that will be relevant. Or trying to keep the ACC relevant which seems like a tougher task.

FSU is in trouble. The ACC has been boxed out of the big money market by SEC and Big “10”. Both those conferences will poach desirable teams from the ACC… and those teams will jump out of sheer self preservation.
FSU will likely not be a team either conference wants to poach. So they either end up in a small conference or … more likely.. traveling out west and joining a desperate PAC 12, Big 12 conference
Norvell has shown flashes of coaching stupidity more than once. His recruiting has been … not good. He has one coach on staff worth anything. FSU can’t afford to fire him. They are gonna have to sink with a small school coach in a conference that is very likely to become a small school conference.
FSU vs Wake forest may soon be the ACC must watch match up.

Jimbo left them in a total mess. He knew his program was toast, and conned A & M into paying him stupid money. What was A & M's record last year? 9-4? After four years of Jimbo, and all that money, they had the right to expect better.

FSU's success years were all based on superior recruiting. Now that is gone, and they have nothing else. Their facilities don't cut it, and they are broke.

If Norvell can't get a decent QB and recruiting class ASAP, he is done, and FSU is in a huge mess.

Bobby Bowden made a deal with the devil, and Jimbo got a brief extension. “Echo of the Whistle”. “Polish Rules”. No consequences for Darnell Dockett. Crab legs. Jameis suspended for one baseball game.

Now the bill is coming due.

They may be a little bit better. I see 7 wins as their ceiling. At the end of 3 years his record would be 15-19. If he were to beat Miami or Florida this year it may help him gain a couple of extra years as that would show some progress. That being said both Florida and Miami will be favorites against Florida State this year or should be…
