With all of the problems on this defense and with recruiting, I don’t think CRob is going to break it or could have fixed it. Seems like we need to tread water until Grantham is gone—a new guy might have made that change anyway.
I wonder if this is a positive sign that Ash is on the way? I read on Surlyhorns a few days ago they think Coleman Hutzler (LB coach) is now gone, and he was a great recruiter at UT and SCAR. If we got him and Ash it’s a massive coup because we upgrade recruiting and coaching, and Ash could either be a bridge to replace Grantham after his contract is up or replacing Grantham immediately (one can dream). I guess Meyer is the last potential roadblock if he wants to take Ash. IMO it could be good news here... Edit: After sleeping on it idk Wtf I was smoking, Ash is going to Jax as there’s no way Grantham is letting in a co-DC and Mullen isn’t walking away from Grantham. Looks like another meh-to-bad offseason for the staff other than finally punting on English.
I heard he was asked to depart. There was supposed to be an announcement regarding a replacement, but don’t think it is Strong now that Urban got the Jacks job
If he goes or stays, don’t matter to me. LB play has been average to solid at best. And still dont have a true ILB on the roster
Sure seems like we told CRob to go packing to upgrade to Strong. That seems to have backfired. Not stressed that we lost him as a coach. We haven't had a defensive coach in years who I thought was elite. We've had a bunch of journeymen who are good recruiters. Chances are though, that he now gets replaced with yet another journeyman, but without the recruiting ability. It won't hurt us next year, but probably in a couple years
Exactly all of these "the sky is falling" posts without seeing who we're going to replace them with. lol
I remember before last season i was “i can see C Rob being given the keys to the DC job once Grantham leaves” pumpers but as the season went on I was like “wait a minute, what exactly has he brought to the table as our LB coach” & he really hasn’t brought much. Who can we say improved under him???
I don't know any more about who's replacing Robinson than I did about Robinson when he came. So, I'll sit back and watch with interest who we get and what impact he will make. Looks like we are getting closer and closer to a complete re-do on defense, though, and, rightly so.
I had really high expectations for the dude. I don’t even know how to feel about how underperforming every level of the d was save the d line. None of them have arguments to be saved except Turner. Frustrating
Yeah I think there is a large portion of the fan base that was enamored with his recruiting. He is a good recruiter but I think people were just so used to us taking on Randy Specials at LB after Mac came in. I think we should also remember this was his first job as a positional coach.
Anybody on here think like I do TWill from Auburn is the play? makes way too much sense. Guy that recruited Owen Pappoe and a good lb coach. This would be a home run hire.
So we still have 2 Positions open right ? Need a safeties guy and a lb guy. D can’t be worse. I almost wouldn’t mind taking fliers on younger up and comers
Grantham knows they better perform, he probably doesn’t want to take any chances. Get out the checkbook and pay the best available or be unemployed after next year.
You got that right. These are some pivotal hires and im seeing peeps on Twitter throwing out LB coaches name like Spikes and Bam Bam Hardmon and im like “this isnt Savannah State”, they have no coaching experience lol edit: Bam Bam the OLB coach at Troy https://twitter.com/coachbamhardmon?s=21
