WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He IMHO was THE ONLY reason to keep Grantham. If we fired him, we might loss C-Rob. Man, this totally sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree but not sure why. I guess my impression is he was an effective recruiter. I wish I knew what, how, or if, the UF Administration prevents a HC from being all he can be or fails to level the playing field on some issues. I can only imagine that's why he's leaving. But Harbaugh's program?
Definitely good with this move.... LB play has been underwhelming in spots (i.e coverage). Could Grantham get replaced, now? Crob was his boy
That's where I'm at. So are the threads on rival boards going to be about UF sputtering and having trouble keeping good assistants, or will their informed posters point out that UF is upgrading and moving forward with our diabolical plan to become the best of the best in the SEC? The optics? We fired two guys(?) and lost one good coach to Michigan of all places. We still have Grantham- probably because of money- but his defense failed in the same ways they had prior to joining UF so should I believe the problems were on the staff? I admit LB play was not great, at least according to board members, and post-game analysis that showed our experienced LBs largely untalented(my word) effort at dropping into coverage. Were the now departed assistants part of the problem? Could LB and Secondary play benefit from a coaching upgrade or was TG's staff not buying into his scheme forcing some changes to be made since Grantham was retained? ,I know, I'm speculating and throwing a bunch of hooey on the wall.
LB play was abysmal this year. Nobody knew where to line up and only Miller could be counted on to make a tackle. Not sure if he is the reason we were so bad, but even so, I can't see leaving Florida to go to a tanking Michigan team? Makes no sense unless he was encouraged to look elsewhere.
Perhaps the writing was on the wall too that this year is Grantham’s swan song so he wanted to go work for another buddy with better job security.
That’s not totally accurate. If given a choice of recruiting studs and not developing them or not recruiting studs and still not developing them , I think I choose studs. We haven’t shown development of defensive players by most of the staff. So yea give me the studs
Georgia has proven that this doesn't work. You still need good coaches to get the most out of those studs, talent alone isn't going to win you anything.
Linebackers have been poor. He has gotten a pass from fans because of recruiting but he hasn’t coached anyone up. Linebackers and safeties weren’t getting people lined up this year. Now both those coaches are gone. People should stop being negative until you see who he’s replaced with.
Point being is we haven’t done either on defense the last 2 years. Develop or recruit. Hell gimme at least 1 of them more specifically , gimme stud o and d lineman. You can almost fall outta bed and get top shelf skill position guys in the state of Florida. You gotta close the gap along the lines of scrimmage. It completely changes the game you’re able to play
