TG's history and track record may grant him a second change with Mullen. We don't know all the issues so maybe there is a lot more going on with the issue than we know. But if the position coaches are not on the same page as the DC then there will be a lot of issues. We had a lot of issues so something is wrong TG has 1 more year I think on his contract and maybe he asked for a change to make it right. I can't stand the 3-4 defense so I'm not a fan boy of TG. Just trying to rationalize why we're changing the pieces rather than complete changeover.
And I agree with you. We don't know what these moves mean. We likely will not for a season or two. I don't mind starting next season ranked 16th but we need to finish a good bit better than that.
I’m wondering on the delay of naming the new coaches? Are we looking at NFL coaches? Waiting to see who shakes loose. It is my bet that the staff has a good idea what school are going to shake up their staffs and who will be available.
Likely Ash waiting on Urbs and Mullen waiting on Ash. Once that clears itself up, I'd expect to see things fall into place.
fwiw, Robinson was only making $290k per on a new 2yr contract signed last Feb. UF was not going to pay him more now, Michigan is likely overpaying to get him.
My fear is that Urban taking the Jags job screwed us over with potential defensive hires like Strong and Ash, who were both probably on their way here until Urban came calling.
I would think his chances of needing another job next year are greater at Michigan then they were here. One more year like the last few along with losing to OSU and there will be a new head coach at Michigan.
Nah. They haven't had problems under Harbaugh outside of opt-out Covid world, so he's not going anywhere soon. That extension was more about justifying keeping him for a while than getting rid of him soon. Grantham and the rest of the D holdovers are squarely on the block, as nothing less than superlative D is going to keep them employed, and we don't have those horses.
If I am a defensive coach, I would not come anywhere near Florida because of Grantham. Why come coach for a year then if Grantham gets canned, it's possible they may only be here for a year... NO THANKS!!!!
I’ve watched TG coach over the years with several other teams and I just think these moves are nothing but putting a band aid over an open wound. TG is a lot like Muschamp in many ways. He throws coaches under the bus and refuses to change. But hey I hope these changes work and things will get better defensively in Gator country.
I don't think they're mutually exclusive. Plus there's still a chance TG may be gone. Long offseason ahead and there will still be lots of movement.
If I’m not mistaken wingo was converted to lb for last 1-2 years. Still learning I believe but I could be wrong
Texas paying a million dollars a year to a special teams coach will start an arms war in the coaching circles. Texas, Bama, Clemson paying those kind of wages is crazy, but a UF has to up the anti to attract and keep good coaches. $1 million plus for Coordinators and $500 to $750 for Assistant Coaching jobs is now going rate at top programs
I think this is mostly about TG's tenuous place and what looks like scapegoating assistants for getting another year. A close second is our going to one year contracts for the assistants instead of two. My guess is he thinks he is going to a more financially secure place. Good luck.
