Sources: Harbaugh, Michigan set to poach SEC assistant (footballscoop.com) Can't say I'd be particularly broken-hearted about this. He's been a good recruiter but LB play has been fairly mediocre for a while.
Good for him. His reputation exceeded his abilities, but he's a young guy with a bright future. Hopefully our LB play improves next year, it was a bit of a disaster this year honestly.
We have defensive Asst coaching positions to fill. One HAS to be a great recruiter. Preferably both ar great recruiters and good teachers. What positions can Ash coach?
Unless he's the DC, which seems a little premature, this seems like a big step down considering where that program is right now.
Not sure how to feel, he's young and a great recruiter. But he's more proof you need actual coaching ability, & what I point at to star chasers. Maybe Dan is giving enough rope to TG to live, or hang his career?
To Meat Chicken lol We should totally revamp the whole defensive coaching staff. Big time recruiters and younger hungrier coaches.
If Ash gets hired here then he needs a Co-DC role. That way if Grantham struggles mightily again, there’s better reasoning to let Ash take over full time.
Robinson and the incoming Michigan DC worked together before. This is more about his perceived recruiting abilities. Now only Gran & Turner will return on the defensive staff. Sources: Harbaugh, Michigan set to poach SEC assistant
I hope you all are onto something here. Hopefully there were some problems with coaching so that the new staff improves our game. If units are performing poorly we lose games which makes recruiting that much harder. If our position play improves and we win more games recruiting is easier. I hope this is what's in store. We will not know for a season or two if this staff rebuild had to take place for TG to reach his potential or if we are losing staff(sacrificing staff) to give TG the chance to right his ship and the entire effort to save face.
I dunno. CRob was a fairly dynamic recruiter, at least by my perception. Lots of changes on the defensive staff, so if our D struggles in the future, ultimately the chickens will have to roost on Todd.
I see he was a great recruiter...hmmm what 5-star players did he bring in? He was way more misses than hits in recruiting. This year's ILB play was horrendous. I think the worst in the SEC and cost us games. I think we can upgrade. We need our new D asst coaches to teach wrap up and tackle techniques and to play smarter and not just headhunt and be out of position most of the time. I would concede some of the schemes were real boneheaded some of the time. But when Grantham did call the right scheme we could not tackle in space or use proper angles. Not to mention just plain be more disciplined. I think even with Grantham we can expect huge improvements on D this year
Not sure who this MacDonald guy is, but the LB coach when C-Rob was a player was John Jancek in 2009 and Grantham the rest of the way. Mike MacDonald must have been a GA or something like that.
Might be a bit of insight as to where TG and the remaining defensive staff sits now. Better to line something up now rather than get pink slipped in 10 months.
