Muschamp would have eliminated that clause after 2012. Ditto with Mullen until his last year. Besides, Mullen was head coach at Miss State for a decade.

 

Throw the 80s in there too. Lot of people seem to forget we had some damn good teams then as well. Should have won our first SEC title. We weren't exactly invisible - many of our Hall of Famers came from that period.

So technically, from the 80's to the 2010s was our period of dominance/relevancy. That's pretty average for a lot of the bigger football schools actually. Very rare/few cases that have more than 2 or 3 decades of combined relevancy throughout their entire football program's history. Take Bowden from FSU and what are they? Take Dooley and Smart from UGA. Plenty of other examples. Most big time programs only ever hit it big once or twice with a coach. UF is no different and I'm tired of this fake narrative that we only have ~15 years of good football - that's an overexaggeration, and even if you make that point, you have to consider many other "powers" who aren't that different.

I believe he was referring to always being in top 25.... we did have some great teams in the in the mid 80's.... but only dominate 83-85. I started in 84 and within a few years we were excited to be in the receiving votes category

 

I think what makes us different is that we were a backwater until Carrier invented affordable air conditioning. Not many of us lived in Florida before that. My hayseed ancestors moved here from Georgia (Palatka area) in the 1840s, but there was nothing here. A state of farmers and ranchers. To this day, not many know that until a couple decades ago, Florida was one of the largest ranching states in the nation.

I'm calling BS. Maybe something goofy happened in 2020 since it was the COVID year, but there's no way in hell any coach in the playoff hunt is going to publicly announce he's leaving for another job halfway through the season.

Additionally, for those of you asking for Urban or some outsider to come be our interim HC? Well other than Jeff Saturday with the Colts, I can't even recall a time when a HC was fired and one of the assistants on staff wasn't named the interim coach.

Obviously the agent had to let that out. If that's the case, Lane would like his current employer to match or maybe get into a bidding war. If Ole Miss matches and we don't up the ante, i suspect Lane is planning on staying right where he is. I hope I'm wrong on this.

 

I attended school with kids from at least 4 ranching families in Inverness (Citrus County) in the 50’s and 60’s. Only one of those families still are in the cattle business and it is scaled down from what it was.

I just want to extend a thank you for spelling out whoever the hell "Key" is. Like other people who have jobs and kids, I'm not as well in-tune with the current landscape of college football. Proud of myself for knowing who "Drink" is (no thanks on that guy btw), but you are one of the only people to write this Key person's first name AND the institution at which they are currently employed.
