Sumrall has some things going for him over Napier. I haven't watched film on Tulane, but let's assume everything on that reddit post is true.

Sumrall still made a name for himself on winning tons of close games and on mediocre offense in the G5. His record is nearly identical to Billy's when we hired him, both overall and in close games. He also won many close games. Having a lot of close games and winning them isn't necessarily a good thing in evaluating long-term success because you can attribute many of those results to a coin flip or luck. Good teams win close games, the best teams rarely have close games.

Hopefully his teams have an identity and they play to their potential. But one of the big selling points for Billy when we hired him was his recruiting. Sumrall may have us playing respectable football for the guys we have, but if we're average to below average in the conference in recruiting, we're not going to be much better than where we are now.

He’ll be ceremoniously driven by police escort and horses with braided manes through the horribly ugly LSU campus, past brown stucco buildings, potholed roads and into his office cubicle replete with a refurbished Mac computer and a 1980’s fold-out sleeper couch and a festive sign on his door that says, “WELCOM TO LSU COACH TIFFIN!

More like she's a lot fatter, but he still got her over the line in the same time or quicker.

On the surface. But once you dig a little, they actually look very different. I hate to go there, but Sleepy Billy and his "low energy" never really impressed me. This guy feels different.

After having my rage for a day, I am going to support the new hire. He couldn’t be possibly worse than BN…..could he? However, I am still on the side of firing SS ASAP camp.

He has the same record as Billy, similar offense and is from a G5 school, so he’s Billy? That’s it, end of story?? None of this means he will make Billy mistakes. Just because he has a similar career path doesn’t mean JS can’t count to 11, have better clock management or hold his staff, players and himself accountable. Billy’s background didn’t fail Billy. His actions/inactions did.

Sure, he could be the next Saban. Anything's possible. But all of the information we have at the moment suggests he's Billy 2 and for that Stricklin should be fired into the sun.

Muschamp failed as a head coach, Sumrall has not. Silly comparison.

And if you did any research there is no “same type” coaching correlation to BN. Lazy assumption.

Enlighten us on this "research" you've done. Same results.

Do your own homework. Or don’t. Really don’t care. Staring at numbers doesn’t mean they coach the same or make the same decisions on Saturdays. Watch some interviews, games and practice. They couldn’t be anymore different in how they prepare for game day.

Oh so you don't actually have any "research" and are just on hopium. Why didn't you just say so?

Well all coaching hires are a roll of the dice. I'll save real judgement for on field performance, but I just can't get my hopes up with the profile he brings.

Biggest issues for him would be keeping current players and commits until he can prove himself at big league.

May be an unpopular opinion at this point, but I'm impressed at all the folks who can see into the future here. I get it, he's not high profile, he coached at the Sun Belt and the American and everyone has a bad taste in their mouth...but damn, most folks on here were happy with the Napier hiring until they weren't. It's not Sumrall's fault for everything that happened here....he was offered an opportunity and he took it. We can all be pissed at SS and blame him for everything, but damn, give Sumrall a chance to prove himself. The vitriol against him is idiotic and embarrassing. Saban started at Toledo and started moving up from there. All coaches start somewhere, like gatorwalrus stated, all coaching hires are a roll of the dice. Crap on SS all you want, but let's give Sumrall a chance to do his thing....or just be miserable during his entire tenure here.
