Welp... this was a thread originally but now got dumped in here. :emoji_thumbsup:

I had said that I think we should consider Ryan Grubb.

Has won with DeBoer everywhere he's been. Runs a prolific and fun offense. Shredded Kirby back to back years now. Seems like the next big up and coming coordinator waiting for his HC chance. He's been on my mind ever since he dismantled UGA. Obviously, everyone wants Kiffin and I think he's definitely the #1 choice. But personally, a guy like Grubb interests me more than a Drinkwitz. He's got a fierce personality in the locker room and a no nonsense/stoic one outside of it.

I think it won't be long before he's picked up by someone. And before some of you say "no coordinators" just because, I'd rebut with this:

    - Ryan Day had zero previous HC exp when he was promoted by OSU
    - Marcus Freeman had zero previous HC exp when he was promoted by ND
    - Kirby Smart had zero previous HC exp when he was hired by UGA

Personally, Grubb would excite me more than some of these HC names that have been tossed around of late. I'd rather take a chance on a proven OC who'd had plenty of winning experience than a coach who's had some moderate success in a lesser conference (Key, Brohm, others). I'd even include Drink in there as Mizzou's schedules have been some of the WEAKEST in the SEC.

As a side note: here's a damn good vid put together by the Bama media team after the Tenn game (Grubb is featured in the first min).

Bout the smartest thing u have said in a month.
Everyone hates UF ! You know that ! Our fans give all the opposition fuel to hate Florida! Even though we have been pretty much dog crap for 15 years we are still hated !
How many schools do we have hated rivalry games with . This makes our schedule even tougher

Don't know if this was already posted (I didn't read all 64 pages), but since 1950 BN is the only non-interim coach with a losing record at UF.

How long does UF wait for LK? Very possible a few more high profile jobs could come open and hire some of the top potential coaches we might have wanted all the while waiting for LK to decide. How long will we allow him to string us along? I see danger in waiting to long.

So answer the question. I think Lane is damned good and also is intrigued by coming to Florida. Others who are "good" may as well. I simply don't see Lanning among them, due to a variety of reasons.

Not sure what you're saying. Are you quoting what I said, or making a declarative statement? I agree with you - said I don't think Lanning is coming.

If you're asking as to why, it's mainly because of his buyout and I think Oregon will easily match whatever we offer him. He seems content where he is and I can't think of any outside reasons why he'd want to move (unless he just wants to coach in the SEC again).

Key and Brohm both at least have winning records vs ranked opponents at their current schools. Drink does not and benefits from weak OOC scheduling every year.

I just looked quickly so I might be wrong but I think key is 7-8. Brohm 4-4. Drinkawitz is much lower at 7-15. None are at the top of my list but they all seem similar to me - middle of the road types. Key has 11 losses to unranked teams in 4 years, brohm has 5 in 3 years, drink has 10 in 6 years.

I would worry about keys offensive philosophy, but seems to be a great head coach. Brohm is considered a great offensive mind but seems to have a lot of hiccups. Drink started slow but has done very well recently, is also blessed with an easier SEC schedule I think.

I wouldn't be thrilled, but I would be ok with drink or brohm as second tier options.

Maybe it’s just me, but UF has had exactly 2 exceptional coaches.

Exceptional football is not the norm at Florida when its history is considered. Plus, I have been getting pretty used to being punched in the face repeatedly since Steve left.

Maybe we should tone the expectations down a tad. I look at the whole picture and I don’t understand what has held us back..the whole ‘sleeping giant’ thing. But, it clearly has been our place in the college football world to underperform. It kinda feels who were are today.

I would be happy with some respectable football. Maybe a winning season two or three years in a row. Can we get that guy? I don’t need the next Spurrier…he’s not walking through the door. But the expectation demands that he is…I think the problem is us.

    Key is 4-4
    Brohm is 4-2
    Drinkwitz is 6-13

Worth noting these numbers represent their records vs ranked teams AT THEIR CURRENT SCHOOL.

I don't think either Key or Brohm are likely since they're currently at their respective Alma Maters. Drink, frankly, I just don't want. I don't think he's a good fit at all. Of the 3, I think Brohm is the best coach.

But who are we kidding? None of these 3 will be our coach.

Perhaps you should take your low expectations to a university where that is considered acceptable. I hear Miss St. is trying to build a fanbase, and they have cowbells!

Your point is spot on, but whenever that Vandy game pops ups (usually as a "great teams can have bad games against lesser opponents" example), I want to remind people that we lost both our LT and C to injury in that game and that's a massive blow to any offense, even ours. And that can happen in a lot of these otherwise inexplicable games--understandable reasons that don't show up in box scores. Stuff happens. Great teams and great coaches overcome. But still, nobody's perfect.

That's been my assumption too. With Drink already at $9M, it would look to be a premium price for us to get a second tier choice. I think we could pay substantially less for a comparable candidate who's not already near the top of the pay scale. I get this will be ridiculously expensive regardless, but depending on the timing, whoever we hire is likely to be the highest paid coach in the country. That's almost certainly true if the coach is currently close to 10M already. And does Drink bring sufficient value for that? At this point I'd say no, but it wouldn't be the first time the UAA decision making process has surprised me.

I don't think Brent Key would do well here. Plus, as a GT fan on the side, I hope he stays there. Key will be a much hotter commodity next year if he continues to roll after Haynes King leaves. I think a lot of the winning record has to do with King. JMO.

For the record, I predicted Kiffin would be our coach after the season right after the USF loss. I've never been on the Lane-Train until this season, but just feels right to me for some reason. With past coaching changes, I put a lot of thought into it and actually looked at numbers, stats, etc. and I was always wrong. I'm just going with my gut this year and am all about Kiffin. It's definitely going to be a crazy couple of months coming up, that's for sure!
