Nobody said he’s not a good guy. But can he win in the SEC? Sunbelt 8 ball says no.

FWIW, Cignetti also coached in the Sun Belt before turning freaking Indiana into a powerhouse. People need to stop being lazy with the from Louisiana and previous Sun Belt experience so he equals Napier 2.0 analogy.

Really? Sumrall? Like the last four years, looks like I will have free Saturdays in the fall for 3-4 more years. Quite relaxing.

    Much love, Plantation.

Nothing quite captures the Sumrall acquisition like saying "we'll all be dead soon, anyway."

    Go Gators!

I shouldn’t be shocked at the ineptitude but I am. I assumed we’d have to miss on our first 3-4 options before we’d go back to the G5 bargain bin, and thought for sure if we did it would be Golesh. But a G5 defensive guy is the polar opposite of what we need and want. Stricklin took a big dump in our Christmas stocking.

That is precisely what needs to happen. Admit defeat. Lay blame at the feet of its architect. Get ourselves the best possible temporary coaching situation for 2026 (Meyer, Kelly) and try again next season with a new AD.

This keeps getting conflated, Sumrall isn't Napier 2.0 because he's from Louisiana or is a G5 coach. People might not want Golesh for whatever reason but they wouldn't be calling Golesh a Napier 2.0. Sumrall is being called Napier 2.0 because his teams resemble Napier's teams.

Turd polishers out in full force. Similar to when Napier was hired.

    Using logic, you're 100% right.

But perception is absolutely everything in this game. Like it or not, a lot of the logic goes out the window. The next coach was more than just about X's and O's - it was a statement about elevating the Gators back towards the top - a swing and a commitment.

2.0 was ALWAYS going to be levied here.

if after all the fan and alumni outrage they hire Sumrlin he will have to deal with the adversity from day 1 and has to expect this. To your point about the portal and recruitment …he will have a HUGE problem there because no one knows who he is and he has NEVER coached at SEC level especially as a HC….So I would expect that he will lose alot of our current players to the portal ….and how many players will want to come here to play for him? How about all the 5 stars out there? You can go to LSU and play for Kiffin or you can go to UF and play for an unknown G5 coach?!?! He will struggle from day 1…..I think he should really go to Auburn….a lot less pressure and high expectations

Confident we dodged a bullet regarding Kiffin. Let him go to LSU. He has never been anywhere for any decent length of time. If he finds some success at LSU he will bolt to Alabama or the NFL within 3 to 4 years. Kiffin demanding to keep coaching Ole Miss 'or else' is just more of his immaturity. He clearly did not learn the lesson from Saban that you can't coach a team you are leaving when you have signed with another team. If I was Ole Miss I would definitely not allow Kiffin at that team meeting.

I am undecided about Sumrall. Prior to 2022 you had to go back to 1998 and Tommy Bowden to see a 10 win season by Tulane. Mostly between those years they were horrible. Fritz and Sumrall certainly did something right. So if we end up with him I am willing to give him a chance.

There are three other names I would have put ahead of him on the search (Hartline, Riley and B. Kelly) but Jerry Jones wannabe wanted Sumrall. We shall see how it goes.

    GO GATORS!!!!

If you have analyzed it, please tell us how Sumrall is closer to Cignetti than Napier. For example, his offensive style...

It might help educate the lazy fans.....like myself.

SS won’t be fired until we have a president and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. He has been bleeding the life out of this program for years with no consequences and he knows it. Probably thinks “what’s wrong with being Mississippi State “?

I am happy it's not Norvell, Sanders, Stoops, Kelly, Freeze, etc.

Though We've got quite the parade going of coaches in over their heads with plenty of flaws. Mediocrity is us.

Like the comments that he just needs to bring in elite coordinators. Does he have the cachet to even attract them?

What is your analysis then? That one diamond in the rough coach made the jump from the same conference and took his team to a playoff one year? There’s much better analysis listed in here in prior posts. We have his defensive ratings listed, we have his offensive ratings, his 4 conference championships, his coaching history, etc. If you have something great for us to convince us, please share. But calling our takes lazy and simultaneously making your case as “well coach Cig made the jump” is as lazy as it gets.
