I can't help but feel Drinkwitz is that high because they know Stricklin's MO to this point, if #1 says no, go to #2. Most of us don't see Drinkwitz as the next best.

Gonna agree and disagree. BN was never a grand slam hire potential because he does not believe in grand slams - he never swings hard. He is inherently pig headed and conservative. Even when confronted last year by his boss and boosters, after indicating that he would hire an OC, he shelled up after winning out and continued to coach Billy-ball. When hired to the day he was fired he had an irrational confidence in himself that was undermined by the on field flaws we everyone saw that he refused to address. We have exactly 0 coaches on staff that are looked at as potential future head coaches. He simply did not hire a championship coaching staff. I hope you are right that he put a foundation in place for the next coach, but that is unproven.

We must have a high floor guy. Florida needs to win 10 games/year and return to some form of national relevance. It is hard to imagine a guy who has done that at ole miss not being able to do it at Florida. What are Kiffin's train wrecks? UT? Surely. And that is explained by him going to USC - a dream for him after working for Carrol and his title winning teams (watch the interview). His tenure at USC was NOT a train wreck. Guy lost 30 scholarships and still had them competitive. Oakland? Working for Al Davis at age 30? Let's look at his most recent jobs. FAU - unqualified success. Ole Miss - unqualified success. Guy has grown a lot and dinging the kiffin of today for his actions 15 years ago ignores his recent history.

I think we need to consider Fisch as well. His record is impressive because he has built programs and, as you say, is a Gator. Yet, we all know that the SEC is different. LK is guaranteed to get us back on a winning path, albeit you are correct to ask about his past volatility and brashness. However, that has certainly worked for us in the past.

I have Kiffin as the first choice. If he decides to stay at ole miss then I think Fisch would be a great alternative. But we know Kiffin wins in the SEC, and the same cannot be said of Fisch (potentially lower floor which we cannot accept). I get that Fisch might be perceived as a longer term more stable option, but the opportunity to get a sec winner cannot be overstated in my opinion. Basically the same age, LK brings immediate excitement, guaranteed offense, wins. Maybe Fisch would turn into our Saban and stay for 15 years but that seems a long term guess versus a relative guarantee for the next 5-8 years. Will be thrilled to hire LK and cautiously optimistic with Fisch.

Seriously. If Fisch didn’t have the Gator connection he wouldn’t be in our top 10. Do you think lsu or psu (the other two big jobs) are considering him? NOPE.

Both Kiffin and Freeman are still 1 and 2. Neither of them has closed down talks. It will be radio silent till the end of the season. Don’t be shocked if Freeman is not at ND next year regardless if he ends up at UF. Former players like both these guys.

I am indifferent in fisch. He's blah to me. But he's done pretty well as a head coach. I'm just not sure what his calling card is. Is he an offensive wiz? I never hear that about him. Why did his offensive coordinator leave for the raiders OL job?

You aren’t missing anything. He would be the ultimate appeasement hire by Stricklin who would hope he would get grace yet again if (when) Fisch failed because he could say he “hired a Gator.”

I know it isn't a overly realistic group, but I would call these 5 first ..
    Kiffin (Obvious)
Riley (Hasn't been a great fit at USC. Might want a change)
Brohm (I think Brohm is legit)
Freeman (Likely no chance, but make the call)
Hartline (I think he is the next big thing)

I think Dillingham could work his way into the conversation depending on what he does down the stretch.

A playoff team wanted him, just last year.
I think he will get a look from a lot of places.

Truth is, he is in too good a spot for the Arky type job, so it will be interesting to see if one of the 3 big SEC openings gives him a look.
