Adamsville, Tenn.—The Buford Pusser Museum this morning announced the sudden passing of Pusser’s daughter Dwana Pusser Garrison.

Dwana was the only child of Buford and his wife, Pauline.

The message posted on Facebook by the Museum this morning reads, “We are profoundly saddened at the sudden passing of our precious Dwana Pusser Garrison. She was a crusader for Law Enforcement and spent her life carrying on the legacy of her father, the legendary Sheriff Buford Pusser. She was an important part of our lives and will be missed beyond measure. Dwana is survived by her husband, Jamie Garrison; Two daughters, Atoyia Barnes and Madison Garrison; and two grandsons, Hayes and Jack Houston.”

Buford Pusser was the legendary sheriff of McNairy County who became famous when the movie “Walking Tall” was released in 1973. “Walking Tall” vividly described Pusser’s efforts to clean up McNairy Co. of criminal activities.

I suppose they just conjectured that other child up when they made the first movie....

I can't recall his kids in the movie but I do know it was hugely popular. Another one of those I saw in the old downtown theater.

I know the son, played by Leif Garrett, walked down the corridor of the hospital with his dad's stick to watch over him after one of the times he was hurt (it may have been after the ambush that killed Buford's wife

McNairy county is not too far from here, often think about riding through when we go to Memphis to eat.

I went on a tour of the Aquaglass plant in Adamsville in the late 90's. Aquaglass took us out for dinner and she happened to be in restaurant. We were introduced to her and she was very friendly, but you could tell she could be a pistol.

There was a young daughter and son in the movie. The young son carried the Axe handle to protect his father while he was recuperating.
