    11’ Reaches 2,000 Wins
    FSU Sports

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. No. 6 Florida State (13-1, 2-1 ACC) split a Saturday doubleheader with Virginia Tech (9-5, 1-2) and head coach Mike Martin won his 2,000th career game on the field at Dick Howser Stadium that bears his name. After getting shut out 6-0 in the opener, FSU won 5-2 in the nightcap for the historic win and a series victory against the Hokies.
    Of Note
    • Saturday’s win was No. 2,000 for head coach Mike Martin. Martin became the winningest coach in college baseball history last season and is the first coach in any collegiate sport to notch 2,000 wins.
    • Cooper Swanson hit his fifth home run of the season, tying Drew Mendoza and Elijah Cabell for the team lead.
    • Elijah Cabell was hit by a pitch for the seventh time this season.

Got a lot of Omaha participation trophies, though.

    FSU looking good this season?

Yes, they've actually got a pretty good team this year. Unless our bats are hot, I don't see us beating them with our mid-week pitchers, at least not this early in their development.

Would love to play them in a weekend series like we do with Miami instead.

Because of weather they have literally only played one midweek game thus far...beating UNF 4-3 at home. Really hard to tell much about them at this point, haven't been tested by elite competition.
I think they have a lot of functional arms and we probably see 11 go to the mound plenty of times (surprise surprise) and give UF a lot of different looks.
The scary thing for UF is that all these young arms are still inconsistent, and that makes you vulnerable to a big inning. A guy can be cruising then give up a hit, we boot one, he plunks a guy...next thing you know there is a crooked number on the board. Especially if Sully uses a lot of guys as I expect, increases the odds one won't have his stuff.
This is a game I really don't have a feel for, wouldn't be surprised if it went either way. Whoever gets a guy that chews up some innings without damage probably gets the W

    Agree completely apk—

Both team’s players performances will have direct impact on the outcome of this game—

If coaching figures into the outcome of the game then, well, it’s a no-brainer who comes out on top—

Are you sure? With 47.5 visits to Omaha they HAVE to have won at least a couple of times.

Their freshmen class (hitters) is very good. I’m a bit surprised. However, they will go through freshmen ups and downs as well. They have a lot more power than years past. However, there weekend rotation is average / below average, which ultimately will be their downfall.

Trying to figure who they start, used almost everybody this weekend but Velez so he is my guess to get the ball first. Haney probably next

Pollock Grady and Scolaro all threw around 50 pitches...which of course is meaningless to Martin lol

Not even going to touch the MM no title silliness/agenda

I could have sworn I may have heard that 11 has filed a petition with the NCAA to use Karp as the starter in 3 games this season...

Yeah, the Noles got some big time breaks with this FR class. First, DeSedas, a SS who was considered to be a high draft pick, had a bad SR year and then put a number out there no team was going to meet. Then, Cabell, one of the best HS hitters in the state, gets a release from LSU after the draft and after not agreeing to terms with Milwaukee, fell into FSU’s lap. Those are two big-time gets who if they continue to develop, will be very high draft picks in two years. Add in Robby Martin, another OF from Tampa who can really swing it also, and FSU has three really good freshmen.

Yes. Plus the catcher (Matheu) sp. and Swanson have started off pretty well. The catcher looks good defensively. Would have liked to have seen us pull Martin.
