He's 63 years old. May just be done with coaching. Maybe Davis gets promoted and we bring in a new volunteer assistant.
Very grateful for his contributions to the golden age of Gator baseball! Hopefully this change results in a positive for all involved.
We've had a rather unprecedented level of continuity on the coaching staff considering our level of success. Became pretty easy to take for granted.
I wish him the best. Thanks for 12 great years!
Best of luck Coach, thanks for all you have done for our GATOR TEAM!!!
Hate to lose Brad. Great stability in our staff but it was getting time for him.I think Sully will go after the best asst / recruiter in America. Lars will either leave or stay on as is. Got to get an infield / hitter coach.
National search or promote Lars? I have to believe that this move didn’t catch Sully off guard. I also think that Kendall Rogers would be in the know if a search were in order. Next week at the CWS lots of positions will be finalized and announced. I suspect our will be one and trust Sully’s judgement 100%.
I love D1baseball and all of the information they provide but Kendall's track record is not the best when it comes to predicting/knowing what Sully will do.
Yeah. Kendall had him locked in as Texas' next coach.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. He was wrong on Sully to Texas, but more often than not he’s plugged in.
I must have missed our local or state media breaking the story.
"They weren't the best team we ever brought to Omaha, but they were the best team we ever brought back from Omaha." - Brad Weitzel
Classic. I love it!
Great coach and even better person. A true baseball guy who pretty much ran the daily practices on the field. Sully trusted him greatly and the kids really respected and enjoyed being around him.
Despite being a UGA grad, Weitzel was a true fan of UF and was often seen at other sporting events around campus. Both of his kids graduated from UF and are now involved in college athletics.
If you ever have a chance to talk baseball wit him, you would not be disappointed. Weitzel had some both legendary and hilarious quotes and sayings that have been passed down through his time at UF. Ex-pitcher Greg Larson actually compiled a four page list that a lot of ex-players still carry with them to this day.
He was great to chat with during practice and to listen in on when he was talking with scouts, I enjoyed his back nd forth with Steve Russell for a few years when he would be on nearly every Monday during season for a segment or 2, it was supposed to be in the works for the past season and Brad Told me he was looking forward to it then it never happened. Keeping the staff together as long as Sully has is extraordinary in this day and age and I would not be the one to question Sully but I will miss Brad being around
What’s #11 doing maybe he’d like to win a natty with us
I would be a volunteer assistant coach if they gave me the Connie Mack exemption and allowed me to wear a suit and not be in uniform.
I would have to buy a suit, though.
Only baseball can consistently produce such wit!
Great gator. Sully might bring in one of the old players as an assistant . Lars should get promoted.
Kendall wanted that more than anything. Can “want” and make something happen.
