So did SOS. It happens. They're human.
They have 3 of the top 10 per cbs but admittedly the rankings are all over the place. Gilbert, ,Smith the CB and Kendrick the S. Aside from Bowman the rest of our guys are not as highly ranked. I'm not counting Blades yet.
If you go by meeting needs, I think it is closer. We needed help on the DL and got it. they needed help in the secondary and got it. But they got Gilbert which is huge and we got Bowman which is huge.
We aren’t really recruiting much better in other elite programs in state. Maybe the issue isn’t the school itself as much as our issue recruiting elite players in general and that just happened to be a school full of out of state elite players.
Just sheer numbers would also have to be considered. Pretty sure Blades will be here, so it's 5 to 3. I would take Perkins (and Blades) all day long over the Clemson kid, ratings be damned.....and that's not even considering his off field issues. That's a big differentiator to me.
I think the WV safety is a really solid player, think our 2 DT fall in that same category. Bowman and Gilbert are 5 star talents with a lot to prove. I'm not saying it's a slam dunk, but I wouldn't trade our portal class for theirs, regardless of position needs.
That Auburn game
You talking 01 @aub? Grossman at QB? Aub kicker hits a 50 yarder after Rex threw a pick? Still have nightmares about that game
Without denigrating our transfer class (which I agree is quite strong), I was really hoping we could get in on Tykee Smith, and it was pretty disappointing to see him go to Georgia. I'm worried he's going to be great for them this year and really annoying for us.
He could be talking about AU 94. Serious brain farts wrt playcalling in that game.
from 93 to 2011, Auburn has always been a thorn in our side. I HATE seeing them on the schedule lol
Since players aren't students in the strictest sense like Division 3 the only thing that would level the playing field would be a limited draft. It will never happen.
It wasn't much better before 1990.
Agree...think he is very solid on the back end. Would have preferred him to Tyrique S who left UGA. But we had to have DT help, and got it
Or we just liked perkins&blades better?
Well he's a safety and they are corners. I like the guys we took better than the Clemson corner that UGA took
SOS had how many SEC championships though... What has DM lead us to? Let's not even compare the two at this point in time.
A SEC team will not make it to the CFP unless you can recruit in the top 10 each year. Please name one team within the SEC that has done that within the last decade recruiting outside the top 10? You have to recruit within the top 10 year in year out to get through a SEC schedule and have a chance to make it to the CFP. I think if you pay a coach a salary that puts him financially within the top tier coaches you can have expectations of him to have his team perform within the top 10 teams in the nation.
But he hired away from us our DL coach who couldn't recruit a single DT for two years, and miraculously when he went to Bama he was able to pull a class of DL that we will likely never get at UF. Should we presume that he somehow forgot how to recruit for two years at UF? Was he mentally deficient and unable to perform his duties for those two years? Did he become lazy and incompetent for two years of his long career in college recruiting? Where there is smoke, there is fire.
UF has over 60% of its roster that are blue chip talent (4 or 5 stars). It is one of about 8 rosters that has the talent to possibly give them a chance to win the MNC if our coaches can coach em' up.
you also have to consider how the head coach prioritizes recruiting. Mullen has never liked it and does it begrudgingly, whereas Saban has embraced it and pushes his assistants to be great recruiters as well as coaches. Also I think Sunseri was never really invested at UF and always had one foot out the door, kids can sense that.
Except the difference between a#8 class and a #12 class is so minimal that one sleeper or one bust easily reverses the ranking. This thinking that we have to have a top 10 recruiting ranking is nuts, totally subjective based upon some yahoos that often have no clue, doesn't take into account the portal, doesn't take into account class balance and meeting needs, and doesn't consider player development or talent identification. WAY to many factors to get hung up on some arbitrary "top 10".
