So, where are all the people who said we should never sign California kids because they never pan out or get homesick? Any time we get a commitment from a major market out of state it just spreads the fanbase.

 

I pass Birmingham HS on the way to the Chiropractor regularly. Pretty big school, roughly 2700 kids. With his size and athleticism I would hope he'd be in the mix out of the gate.

It would make sense he's listed a 4 star until the Gator commitment. Big athletic kid. Very cool.

They have him as a 4* star, but the composite has him as a 3* star because of the other rankings services.

They have Miami at #15 and Misery at #14... Misery has one player that I like...

 

Mr. Bordingham probably looked at the USNEWS and Report College rankings. Oregon is ranked 99th. They do have fun unis though.

So true. Before we signed Kamari Wilson from IMG Academy he was a 5-star. Once he became a Gator he mysteriously dropped to 4 star. Funny how that works, huh?

 

Three star players from California don’t excite me.

The big question is “How many TEs is he going to bring in through the transfer portal?”

An even bigger question is “How many of our current TEs are going to enter the transfer portal?”

 

Well, we signed three this year, and, one left through the portal. Not seeing any more obvious transfers at this point in the process. We'll have to tune in for spring camp.

The CA bit, I get. But, he's a high 3*. 247 calls him a 4* outside of the composite. So, he's a 'tweener.

 

This seems like a strange time to post this.
How do you know the kid will work out? Obviously I hope he does, but we are so very far from knowing if this will be a good signing or not.
I mean would you say the Chris Steele signing worked out for us?
After he verballed to us, it looked great, but a few months later, not so great. IMO- it was a big marker in the decline of CDM.

But don't mis-construe my post. I hope this kid is the 2nd coming of Kyle Pitts and he will be one of the greatest Gators of all time.
When that happens, that would be the time to post how we should recruit CA and spend mucho amounts of time getting kids to go 3000 miles from home.
To a completely different climate and culture. When that happens, I'll be the first to say I was wrong.
But right now- it's a little early.

I think we gotta trust the new corch on this stuff. He meets the kids, watches film, talks with parents. I want them all to be the second coming of Pitts. While that is probably a bit overly optimistic...the guy is a recruiter and he knows how to win. Not sure there are a ton of Pitts out there. Georgia got one of the better ones last year. Pitts is sick. Let's hope this kid pans out too. Just saying...

No idea if Boardingham will work out and that's not the issue. I'm responding to repeated criticism of recruiting efforts in California and the anecdotal evidence that California prospects never work out because they're overrated, get homesick or don't fit in because they're "Californian." People remember the Chris Steeles but not the Duke Lemmens or Ronald Powells or even know about the eight California players on the rosters of the two southern teams who just played in NC game.

There was one legitimate issue regarding the time and effort to travel out there to recruit the most coveted prospects but we have two aircraft and a handful of coaches with experience recruiting California high schools. Once an assistant or two gets on the ground, it's like recruiting Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The vast majority of players UF has recruited were from contiguous Orange, LA and Ventura Counties.

Not saying it's a priority but the talent is there and but most of it is concentrated in a handful of high schools accessible from any one of a handful of private airports. We should get what we can before one of those in-state programs becomes elite again. (Same reason so many programs are feasting on Florida talent.)

 

No pressure son, bet we're expecting Kyle Pitts reincarnate.

 

I really don't give a #$%^& what "star" he is. The kid is 6'4" 220 lbs , runs a 4.5 40 and 10.9 in the 100 meters. And he wants to be a Gator so much that he is willing to travel across the country to be one. If he gets homesick, so be it. Florida kids have transferred out of Florida schools for dumber reasons.
