Headed to UF, huge pick up. Was hoping he would make the move last off season but better late than never. Kid killed it as a freshman, had injuries derail soph season. Question becomes,,,,where does UF play him?
That the third infielder we’ve picked up? Gonna be awfully crowded if Shelton comes back. Wonder how Mummau is feeling.
Hmm. Love it. Cade is only a 2B Shelton stays JU kid at 3B stripling at 1B Cyr in LF if Shelton goes JU kid at ss Cyr at 3b? Stripling at 1B
Wasn’t Stripling rumored to be leaving tech because he doesn’t want to play first? I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s not where he lands.
Kid is a player. I remember he gave UF fits last year. Super excited about him. Outside of Petry this one is a baller.
For my fellow stat geeks: Hit .305/.427/.620 in 60 games in 2023. 37 walks and 70 strikeouts in 200 ABs. Hit .284/.397/.537 in 25 games this season. 16 walks and 27 strikeouts in 95 ABs. Good power, good plate discipline. Lot of swing and miss, though I note that he did cut his strikeout rate in a limited sample size this season.
I'm not convinced Stripling will start next year based on his freshman stats but hey it could happen. I see him as a good piece of extra depth in the infield. Maybe in 2026 when we've lost some more infielders he'll be developed enough to start. I think Cyr being pinned as a corner outfielder is confirmation that Evans intends to go pro in this year's draft and Shelton intends on staying. And with Yost likely to miss next year too with his injury we'll need some guys in the outfield.
Shelton has looked like a different guy these last couple weeks. At the beginning of the season, I sometimes wondered if he’d ever get to a ball outside of his shoulders. He’s still no Guthrie or Rivera as far as range goes, but he has gotten to some balls recently that he was not getting to earlier in the year. Has he been practicing this more? Is he putting in more effort? I don’t know, but obviously hope it’s the former.
Heard the kid was never really happy in Coral Gables and was likely to transfer this offseason no matter how his SOPH year worked out. Think LF is in his future but either way, Cyr is a major addition.
Speaking of Mummau, anyone know why he never got to see the field even once this year? He was my pick to make some noise as a freshman after the fall.
I thought he had a couple plate appearances, but he has no stats in his bio. That means he redshirted, and they likely sorted that out before or early in the season.
I gotcha, I was wondering because during our struggles we seemed to try plugging everyone in but him.
