Stupid since we have no black in our school colors. Not to mention our greatest rival of nearly 100 years is primarily black. Just plain stupid if true.
Mullen gets it. Build some credibility and then add the bells and whistles to amp up the hype. Expect us to have several variants over the coming years once things get rolling.
Need a better source for this ‘quote’ —anyone? Could be true of course just that image as attribution....
Wearing black vs. white in the Swamp in September-October makes a huge difference for afternoon games when the playing field is 100 degrees plus.
Other than all white is pretty standard neutral color. Black makes us look just like our biggest rival. So yeah, there is a difference in my opinion.
I don't know about credibility, but if you are going to start wearing alternative uniforms you better damn well be able to win in them. Otherwise you look like Miami, desperate for attention and more gimmick than substance. And Miami, by the way, also looks stupid wearing all black uniforms.
That's why we didn't break anything new out last season other than combos of what we already had, though the staff pimped Jordan brand hard as a proxy for different unis. No team really looks good in black uniforms, but players and recruits like the changes and posting their gear on social media. That is the only thing that matters.
I'll withold judgement as to the credibility as well as the validity of us actually getting black uniforms until we hear it from Mullen.
Alt uni's do 2 things: Excite the players and drive sales of the brand. You may not rush out to buy a black jersey but a few variants of T-shirts after seeing the black uni's on the field will drive up gear sales, especially when winning.
Today's utes (4 & 5 star recruits) don't care what a bunch of old codgers think about team colors, new uniform designs, and whether the Dawgs have some black on their uniforms. That stuff does factor into recruiting. Especially since we are one of the very few Jordan Jumpman teams in the NCAA (and the only one in the SEC). Don't be resistant to change, because change is inevitable.
Something that has been brought up in past uni threads, all the other major Gator sports teams have done a black alternate uniform. (BB, baseball and softball) So it is just a matter of time.
We never wear white jerseys for home games anyway, so really comparing black to blue or orange. That said, really not a fan of black for us or alt unis in general. Don’t even get me started on our puke green gator motif unis from two years ago. Not sure what kind of buzz those generated.....oof.
Ever notice that nuke workers wear white A reason for that Same reason you wear all white for an advantage on hot football days
Personally, I don’t care what color the unis are. As long as two things occur. 1) The players like them. 2) those unis cross the goal line. Go Gators!
