Mike Bianchi commentary in the Sentinel
Mullen the Trump of college football
On this Election Day, Florida Gators coach Dan Mullen has become like one of those frustrating, filibustering politicians who says and does inexplicable things that make you question his honesty and judgment.

Let’s just lay this out there:
We didn’t care what outsiders said about the HBC.

We didn’t care what outsiders said about Corch Meyers

We don’t care what outsiders say about Coach Mullen. He fired up the players and they went out after half time and slammed the door on Mizzou.

Lost me a few years back when random first time posters kept starting threads about his articles and then never revisiting them. Obvious troll work to gain readers. Just felt it was a lame and intellectually insulting method

If they are going to allow sports writers to spew their own opinions and recruit for or against any particular teams, they ought to make it a condition the writer is at least 5 feet tall . ( Not that I got anythin again short folk. I'm one of them. But I don't have a column).

In typical Bianchi style, he makes some dramatic statements that are probably a little over the top, just to get a rise out of people. It's what journalists do. Always have, always will. I am no fan of his, never have been really, but I do think he made a few good points.

Mullen does seem to have a bit of Spurrier in him. He tends to run his mouth a little bit when he should probably just stick to coach speak. The difference, in my opinion, is Spurrier actually won Championships and pretty much whipped GA's a$$ every year. Mullen has done neither of those things yet. In addition to that, his behavior Saturday night was ridiculous for a head coach. Your team follows your lead as a head coach, so what did anyone expect when Mullen sprinted to midfield, like a crazy man, to engage with the refs and the opposing coaches. Spare me the "passion" and "emotion" comments. When you are a head coach, you need to act like one. NOBODY ever makes good decisions when "passion" and "emotion" take control of their actions.

I think Mullen is a good coach and I hope he stays at Florida for a long time. I hope he recruits well, runs a clean program and helps build young men into fine football players and even better people. Through that process, I also hope he learns to be mindful of what he wants to say before he speaks, and he takes responsibility for his, and his players actions.

I am one of the few here that actually like Bianchi's writing. This article was, however, a pure hatchet job. He is right that Mullen lost control and didn't admit it in the heat of the moment then used the Darth Vader outfit to confirm his thesis. Stupid, unjust and hyperbolic.

The thing I will say about that article is that CDM can draw an absolute line under this by owning up to some bad judgment—no one will care whether it is belated—with just a few words in a press conference. He’d end up with higher standing than when he started. If he doesn’t, then all of this will go away anyway, but more slowly and with more distraction.
