For the sake of this discussion of having a winning season (7-5) and assuming we beat vandy and lose to the butt lickers, have to go 3-2 against this group. F$U is an obvious choice, then I'd include TAMMY (I really dislike dumbo) although winning on the road means a home loss. While losing to LSU is nothing to be embarrassed about, I'd include them in the 3rd spot.
That's my thoughts, A&M could be under 500 by the time that game kicks off. Mizz 11 pt favorite LSU 1.5 - 3 pt favorite ( guess) Usce 6-10 pt favorite ( guess ) All the guesses hinge on UF actually winning the previous week. LSU could lose to Tennessee this weekend as well. FSU has a real stretch of games this month, and they are already 0-1, I could honestly see them losing all 3 and being a 4 or 5 loss team by the time we play them in November.
Agree that at least most wouldn't be a steal. Also think the "to not have a losing season" kind of language is typical. I'd prefer to phrase it "to have a winning season." I think we should want to win more than we should fear losing.
Probably some truth. AR could win or lose any remaining game but our D has to be part of the solution. AR may not be able to make up for a defense that has gaping holes, gives up most third downs and can't get three and outs. AR can definitely help keep our D off the field but our D has to help our offense.
Not impressed with our DC's either. Neither Durkin, Smart nor Chizek would have ever put their players in such bad positions. Hope CBN has the stones to say goodbye to non-productive friends (unlike chicken-chit Mullen).
The way our defense performs along with offensive inconsistency …we could win or lose any game. We are the only FBS school that USF could score against. They got KILLED by every program they faced in embarrassing fashion and yet they drove up and down the field on us at Will. We don’t play any teams nearly close to as bad as they are. We forced one 3 and out vs an FCS team. Our defense is ranked 14th out of 14 sec teams…behind Vandy, Meaning, we can lose to anyone left on our schedule due to defense. I agree with a prior poster that this game vs mizzou is a big deal in reference to how solid we can finish the year - it is a pivotal game. I initially thought we would crush Mizzou but after seeing where we rank defensively and watching our defense…and then listneing to the GNFP…it will be a tough battle.
Umm, go back and watch the UK game. Kentucky is good, certainly, but not great. Yet we took them lightly and they beat us. USF could have beaten us easily- we got help from some friendly refs. For some reason we have the arrogance of a top team, but we don't have the skill level nor the record to back it up. IMO- we could win most of the rest of our games, but not if we give UK/ USF effort.
Why do people think we took Kentucky lightly? We win that game handily if AR doesn't have a crisis of confidence. In one way that's reassuring because we were flat out better than them and primed to pull away but the other side of that coin is that we don't know if or when AR will retract back into his shell. I don't see effort or motivation as a problem with this year's team at all so far.
All are winnable if we minimize mistakes and avoid injuries. Defense has to step up and offense needs to control the ball.
100% AGREE!!! Texas A&M is not that good, but our defense is abysmal! The difference in all of our games will be AR; otherwise, our record could be disappointing. We have been in every game, but AR needs to play at a very high level to be competitive. Most teams can run on our defense, keep AR and company off the field, control the clock, and win. I'm very concerned about every game, including Vandy (for some reason they mostly play us tough).
RH - First of all - We need to steal a couple of games OK, I get what you mean, this is a phrase used constantly among fans, the media, Vegas, what have you. I find this phrase "over-blown" and honestly almost a disrespectful way to desccribe certain "wins". I prefer "Upset" or a "Victory over a heavily favored opponent". I don't think a team "steals" anything. A 60 minute contest on the field pretty much allows enough time for teams to "shake-out" and "adjust" and either win or lose. Not trying to be disrespectful either but I just don't like this description. But to your point, I suspect UF will not be favored to win several of these contests. At this point I am just hoping for 6 - 6 and a bowl invite for some extra practice. I suspect 8 - 4 would be a great finish for the Gators and a losing record a .................. disappointment. Again, no disrespect.......
