Nick Smith's career ended due to medical issue
I do not take joy in this. I'm sure you didn't intend for it to seem that way either.
Nick Smith - Football - Florida Gators
"Before anything else, I just wanna say I'm sorry to my family," he wrote on Twitter. "I'm sorry I couldn't create a path for myself and fulfill my life long dream of playing in the NFL, I'm sorry to my friends and loved ones back home, I know I disappointed a lot of people with this news and all I can say right now is I'm sorry.
"I'm sorry to my teammates and my coaches, I wish I could've got healthy and helped contribute to this amazing team. I'm sorry Gator Nationa that I wasn't able to physically contribute to putting the Gators back on top.
"Lastly, I'm sorry to my little brother, who's looked up to me since he was born, I'm sorry I couldn't make it Noah, but I promise I got you."
No, I don't take pleasure in bad fate, especially about someone's health. I wish the young man happy trails!
Gulp. Head up Nick...You got your brother, and the gator nation has you.
Poor kid, it's terrible that he feels like he's let everyone down.
Very sad at least the kid will get a chance to finish his degree and get a damn good one at that. Doesn't help it hurt less for him now but wish him the best
Thanks for the grace, Candy, and no I didn't mean to sound like I was celebrating the fate of another; especially when it is someone's health!
Bummer, hate to see a kid have his dream slip away but maybe the degree will pave the way for him and his family.
And that's only fair, since I only focused on the scholarship. I attempted to change the thread title. Could someone please help me out?
Obviously, figured it out. Thanks everyone!
Always a Gator! Prayers for your health. Gator nation is with you Nick!
Nick didn’t let’s us down though we wanted to see him play
A Gator for life the doors will be open for you
Good luck Nick we’re still cheering for you
Nick, if you happen to be reading this, be assured you have NOTHING to apologize for! This is out of your hands for good or bad. Thank you for choosing to be with us, thank you for wearing the Orange and Blue!
And remember this, Gator Nation will always be behind you 100%! Good luck and God Bless!
No problem, you are a good poster. This is sad for Nick. I believe the staff has known or expected this for some time. Nick will remain on scholarship on a Medical Hardship.
I’m assuming this will be a Randy russell type scenario? Where He will have his scholarship honored and be around the team all the time. Hopefully he receives that 2020 national championship ring.
This is super sad, so lucky he didn’t get hurt and the medical staff found this before he did.
Thanks for becoming a Gator, Nick. You're a Gator for life now. Football brought you to this great university, but, you will leave here with much more important things in a few years.
I would hope he is Honorary Mr. 2 bits at the opener next year and the Crowd does a Thank You Nick cheer.
That would be very cool. I'm surprised they haven't let Russel do it yet. Maybe for what would have been their senior day?
