Communism and socialism are two different things. In addition to that, Marxist socialism and democratic socialism are also two different things. While Bernie has some radical ideas that I don't support, he is not proposing the nationalization of all industry.

Political positions of Bernie Sanders - Wikipedia

"In 1971, Sanders joined the Liberty Union Party, a "self-described 'radical political party'"[22] which was founded in 1970 in opposition to the Vietnam War.[23] During his association with the party as a leading member, he advocated for nationalization of major industries, including those in the manufacturing, energy and banking sectors. In 1974, he advocated for a marginal tax rate of 100% on income over one million dollars, saying that "Nobody should earn more than a million dollars".[22]

While campaigning for the US Senate in 1971, he advocated for state control of Vermont public utilities in a manner that would direct surplus revenues towards social programs and the reduction of property taxes. In 1976, he called for the state seizure without compensation of Vermont's private electric companies in order to reduce the costs of their services to the consumer down to the level of governmentally run utilities.[22] As chairman of the party in 1973, he wrote an editorial in opposition of Richard Nixon's energy policy and against oil industry profits at a time of price increases and shortages during the OPEC oil embargo. He called for nationalization of the entire energy sector."

He was in his 30s at the time he did these things... any reason you believe he's changed his mind? Dude refuses to say anything positive about capitalism and free markets...

Ladies and gentlemen, your NEW Democratic Party. Looks like we may need to change the (D) to a (C) before long...

It's not 1971. Point to something from 2020, 2018, or 2016 that indicates he believes all industry should be nationalized. Elizabeth Warren was a Reagan Republican. Beliefs change over time.

The fact that he can't say a good word about capitalism and free markets... and all of his solutions seem to revolve around nationalization of industries (healthcare is one example), wealth redistribution, and government subsidies... his refusal to condemn communist regimes...

For the record, I'm not sure it's fair that you hold allegations of housing discrimination in the 70s against Trump... but not Communist tendencies in the 70s against Bernie Sanders... Frankly, I think there is far more evidence suggesting Bernie was a Communist in the 70s and is still one today... than there is that Trump was a racist in the 70s and is still one today...

LOL. Okay. You are welcome to your fantasy.

Bernie is a communist. Trump is a fascist. If forced to choose one, I pick the communist.

Shouldn't you take the devil you know over the devil you don't?

Isn't the US in pretty good shape right now? Perhaps because of Trump, perhaps in spite of him... but the US is in good shape...

You really want to risk a communist screwing that up?

EDIT: This is not a concession that Trump is a fascist...

EDIT: Also, is this only the second time someone has ever changed your mind on this board? :)

Wait, are trumpers for or against Bernie this week? It's getting hard for me to tell. They take such offense at every criticism thrown his way... but are also actively throwing criticism his way. They must be realizing he will be a harder candidate to beat than previously thought.

    Depends on the Trumper...

I don't want Bernie anywhere near the nomination... I don't care that I think he's the candidate Trump is most likely to beat... I'd gladly concede the White House in 2020 to any other Democrat still in the race if that's what it takes to keep Bernie Sanders out of the White House...

I already voted Warren (avowed capitalist). Other than that I'm in wait and see mode.

"You Americans are so gullible. No, you won't accept communism outright, but we'll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you'll finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won't have to fight you. We'll so weaken your economy until you'll fall like overripe fruit into our hands." - Nikita Khrushchev

The propaganda and false promise of collectivism in all its forms is expertly outlined by Tomas Schuman aka Yuri Bezmenov, a KGB officer who defected to the United States, in his book Love Letter to America. You Trumpers actually think this? I can't think of a single state Trump will win that he lost last time. So at best, we repeat the EC totals of 2016. What states do you think he will win this time that he did not win in 2016?

Cuba's healthcare system and medical research facilities have produced a vaccine against lung cancer! You might want to give credit where credit is due... medical research that actually helps the populace (and now, the WORLD) is a good thing, no?? (lots of smokers in Cuba, as in Florida!) Cuban doctors are exported to socialist countries the world over, helping with shortages of medical personnel, of which there is none** in Cuba... Might want to rethink your "fact supplying" system here. UF has a great department of Latin American Studies... maybe they can help you educate yourself on this particular matter!

Why would it be an indictment of anyone to mention another country has a good education system?

They have a shortage of medical supplies and drugs in Cuba though. If you get cancer there, you will likely have to have some relative spending days riding from town to town trying to find some place where they have it in stock. The shelves are largely bare in most places. It's nice Castro sent doctors to other countries, but what about his own people? Could those resources been used to better society at home? Not to mention how malnutrition isn't exactly great for your health long term.

Hitler had a good education system too. The Hitler youth instilled discipline in those good young lads. Let's focus on that.
