There is another interesting prospects from Belmont in the portal as well: 6'7 small forward/guard Cade Tyson.
If we start getting Belmont transfers left and right, Virginia Tech will be highly offended. Personally, I don't care as long as they're really good players.
How about Lynn Kidd from Virginia Tech for a year? He's from Gainesville, and he really blossomed at Va. Tech this past season (13.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg). He'd be a terrific addition to our frontcourt.
Exactly. You aren’t going to find very many guys in the portal shooting better than 43% from 3. But even 43% shooters can have off nights, so singling out single games or even a small stretch of games seems silly. I don’t know anything about this kid, but I’d be more worried about the 5’11. How did he do against bigger or more physical guards as he might face in a power conference? Is he fast and solid with the ball? Definitely need a PG with a solid assist/to ratio. The 3pt shooting % is right where you want it, bordering on elite.
With Golden’s fast pace, just about any guard could see the possibility of a career year. Esp if they end up playing that many minutes. Definitely in terms of scoring and assists. Now the efficiency numbers maybe more indicative of the player exceeding expectations. Fast pace doesn’t increase FT% or 3pt%, it just gets you more shots.
If fast pace gets you more open looks, then it can lead to an increase in shooting % too. Nothing kills shooting % more than a contested shot, which is why closing out on 3's is critical. And, yes, exciting spring period now to see how TFG recruits coming off a promising season...Players have no doubt taken notice of UF with his style of play and overall vibe.
He’s eligible for a medical redshirt. The big question with Ques right now is whether he can ever fully recover from what might be a degenerative knee injury.
Are we sticking with Belmont transfers or going back to Virginia Tech? NBN board: please make up your mind!
Yeah, the real issue, IMO, is that you want to have some HS talent coming in and so you need to keep up the recruiting efforts, but then you have to scout a plethora of programs for who fits your system and then get their attention. That is a pretty large task. Getting a reputation will definitely help. Methinks TG is getting a very good rep.
We’ve gotten several transfers with 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. Given Golden’s success with last years freshmen, I wouldn’t say we shouldn’t recruit high school. But if you are getting transfers that stick 2-3 years that gets you most of the same benefits as far as players becoming familiar and the added benefit of seeing how they do over a college season (or two).
